Got this bicycle with a front wheel set of 24x1.75 and a 16x1.75 rear wheel. What I retained from the original bicycle was the frame. Installed a Suntour shock absorber and wheel set of 26x1 3/8 and rear wheel of 18x1.75
Rims and spokes are stainless steel. Nexus dynamo/brake hub and 3-speed IGH for the rear wheel. Original sticker is Silky II but since I can't search the net for the original brand and model I decided to name it Scorcher after all the changes I made.

is this a common style of bike over there? is it considered to be like a city bike or something?
while i was typing i remembered i made a bike somewhat similar, but it was kinda an out of the blue project and i haven't done anything with it since the basic build

i've been calling it a softail bobber (was thinking paint it flat/semi gloss black, white walls, etc.) but now seeing yours, maybe i made something that already has a name. i just don't know what it is.

My Grandfather rode a bike set up like that back in 1912. It was made by Columbia or Pope I believe and had wooden rims with direct drive. It was designed to keep away the stray dogs that roamed at that time. It sold very few and was dropped from the line. He flipped his over and put a seat on it but had to pedal it backwards to go forwards.

Thanks man. That is actually a water ski. I painted the top of it orange and then bought the skateboard grip tape and cut out some hot rod flames on it before I laid it over the orange.
If you want to see how much fun this bike is, check out this video of me running down tourists in Savannah.

My guess is the bike is one of the confiscated bikes (illegally parked) form Japan which are shipped to the Phillipines and sold through different sources. This style bike is somewhat popular with the trendy young women in the city here in Kyoto. (20 - 26 year olds)

yeah it is! I must have missed this one.
I've been around BF for a while. One day I stumbled across Alt Bike Culture. This is what happened:
248216248217248218
Was: boring 1981 Raleigh. Now: 2012 Comic Book Bike, red cloth bar tape, wine bottle cork bar end caps, Campy brake levers, Shimano Arabesque shifters, Snake bottle cage, Tire Savers. It took me all Winter, several bottles of wine, (not to mention the comic books). When it warmed up, I hit it with clear coat. Done on the cheap with trades. A super fun ride.
Of course, you can't have just one:
248219248220248221
Was: boring canary yellow 1988 Specialized Rockhopper. Now: 2012 Satin Black cruiser, 3/4" copper tubing handlebars, jute wrapped grips, 150mm Tioga T-Bone stem, flexible copper icemaker line bottle cage, 6 speed thumbies, slicks. This bike is a hoot to ride.

I almost got one for myself. I'm 35, and was asking me wife if she'd buy me that "Schwinn from Kmart". She liked it too, so it would have been a sure thing, but they left very little room for any kind of custom mods. I love the back wheel, but it can't be laced to any other hub. Little kids don't care, but to a big kid, it was kind of a letdown. I'll have to build a few myself instead.
Your nephew is lucky to have such a cool aunty.

My 1920s velodrome replica, yes i did get alot of hater comments from single speed guys that only can only assemble a bike out of parts and have no idea how to machine or fabricate anything just slap together multi colored junk and call it art lol, yes its pointy and yes it looks dangerous but frame is an 1985 tour de monde thats like 50cm so its low, and this is what they ran on some of the old race bikes it was called a "lucky seven" and its was to get an aerodynamic competitive edge, my bike however is very light and did use a bit of modern tech like black anodized aluminum wheels and aluminum 3 piece cranks, modern chain aluminum "M" bars and a few other things, i do ride it alot and people trip out.267220267221267222

So this is the first incarnation of my monstrosity, it's changed a bit since but i don't have recent pictures of it. I'll take some in a day or two though.
Man it's changed a lot since then, I've got to take some new pictures.
I like what you have going on! I'm working on one now that's similar but more of a UTE to carry people or cargo. I've got less than two weeks to finish it for a festival so I will have pictures soon. Looking to see yours finished here soon.

So this is the most recent state of this monster. What I need to do now is build another fork to fit a 26" wheel so the pedals will actually clear the ground. Plan on putting some long swept bars on it, and once it's actually rideable stick a little motor in it.
