Here's my first alt bike. Its supposed to look a bit sh*te, its for a character in a short film. Took 1.5 hours to make total. I'm gonna make a few more soon :) the sillier the better.

THis is "Blueshift". They're a fellow competitor and our biggest rival. Sure, their vehicle looks advanced, but it certainly isn't. The fairing is made from coroplast sheeting and their windows from polycarbonate. Their chassis is a cro-mo spaceframe. Total weight is 50lbs. I estimate that this vehicle cost, at the most, $4000Aus to construct. It's simple yet effective. Blueshift just prove you don't need to spend big money to go fast.
I just don't think it will hold up to a 12" subwoofer though...ah well, Back To The Boombox!
not mine, but i rode it at Virginia Tech. Its called the commander and cheif

The bike itself isn't too "alt" (besides the 6-gear ratio fixed/free drivetrain setup) but the bike stereo was no-cost (well, low-cost) frankenbuilding at it's finest:
http://www.dailyabortion.com/pictures/bikestereoonbike.jpg
Here's the stereo off the bike. The speakers and sub are just computer audio gear I dug out of my works' de-provisioning bin. With about $8 in radioshack and diy store components, a UPS battery, drill and a soldering station I turned it into this:
http://www.dailyabortion.com/pictures/bikestereocomplete.jpg
Here's the view from the back of the thing (showing the sub):
http://www.dailyabortion.com/pictures/bikestereosub.jpg
And here's how I rigged it to hook onto my rack using spare Axiom pannier hardware:

I'm calling it Frankenstereo 1000!!!

$175
It's damn mint. one tiny little chip on the toptube, air in the tyres and tightened the front fender and it was ready to go.

I'm building (sooner or later, winter's coming on) a lightweight custom fairing with a used Vetter windshield and the Delco UX-1 "Symphony Sound" cassette I repaired and used in a couple of my GM cars and the battery, lighting/relay, switches and some storage space will be there also and lockable plus the connector to charge. I'll probably run the rear wiring through the tank. I've got 5" full range speakers to build in also and weatherproof, and they go inside where I can close the bay and protect them.
I'm not really sure how motorcycle fairings are mounted but I know bikes aren't the same at all so right now I have to deal with adding on to the bottom of the fork. I have seen at least one example but I don't know how he did it. I will have to look and ask him.
(besides the 6-gear ratio fixed/free drivetrain setup)
Wait, whut? How does that work? Modified nexus?

dude, tripleC, i saw the hate in the fgss forum and frankly, everything you build is awesome. that's one of the best looking tall bikes i've ever seen, and definitely the first one I'VE seen with gearing.
Definitally THE best tall bike I've ever seen, well done as far as frame matching, headtube extension, gearing and overall fabrication. Nicely done. I've got one in the works, but I want to keep it quiet until its done.

Dude, that one is sssSICK! It's funny cause I was torn between making mine really nice-ish like his or just keeping with the usual gnarly aesthetic. I figured somewhere in between would be best. Although I was reeeeally tempted to toss a Brooks Antique brown saddle with matching grips and wooden fenders on there, hehe...

I've posted some stuff on page 16, 17 on velomobiles in this very thread. If you're interested in what the Aussies are up to of course ;)

Yes. It was pretty slow as it was when stock- but piece by piece (carbon fiber hard shell seat then short cranks- 155mm, then 2 fairings, then all shifting components, then thinner tires); brought the speed up a little each change. When the shell cut the air resistance I was pleased and stopped changing things!
That kit was a mass production attempt by Easy Racers, but it failed; so I bought the fiberglass/kevlar pieces and changed their plan- widened the front, lowered it way down (too low, sometimes hits the ground but safer that way), closed it up (they had planned an open top). Built up speed slowly and eventually it is scary- no suspension mainly, but it lasted 2 years that way- no uphills or distance.
December 1; I had a 36 volt motor put in. I still prefer pedaling, but I have the acceleration and distance I was missing. Problem is: it is very heavy now.
I saw the european Aero Rider velomobile in about 1999, and searched for those- one place was the Australian Pedal Prix. The rest of the world is way ahead of the US when it comes to velomobiles.
Thanks for letting me know! More happy velomobile surfing!

Quick and dirty flipover of a dumpster find. Yes, it was that awesome color when I picked it up.
Inverted and reversed the fork, flipped the cranks and the rear wheel, added bar extensions. Only frame mod was a minor chainring clearance issue (1/4") on the formerly non-drive side. Fixed with a hammer.

someone on my street threw this bike to the curb. it used to be a pink girly bmx bike that they put a banana seat on and a rattle can gold black fade paint scheme. I deep sixed the chainguard, sawed off the reinforcement bar from a free donor bmx bike set of handlebars and put a $10 26" springer on it. it's a little bouncy of a ride, but fun.

That's cool! Have you rode it yet? Don't try to sit down:p
I've only ridden it about 1/2 mile so far. Its very different, but I love it. It rides very tall, but you can still stand over the top tube. The crazy geometry means all steering, no leaning in turns.
Already put grippier pedals on, trying some ape hangers tomorrow. The multi-mtb-extension bars are a little too flimsy.
As for comfort...I've named it Crampy.
