Any advice on the best bike shops in the Chicagoland area? I'm looking to spend about $1500 on a bike and want to get the most for my money from a reputable dealer. I'm willing to drive to find the right shop.

I haven't been in the city that long, but I've been to a handful of shops. I guess it would depend primarily on what manufacturers you're interested in. If you've narrowed it down to a few, check out their dealer searches online. In the immediate downtown area the best shops I've seen are Village Bike Shop on Wells, any Johnny Sprocket's location, and maybe Kozy's.

EDIT: I just realized that I'm in the road bike forum  :)

forgot to mention: IF you are able to pick up one of the Chicago Bicycle Foundation promotional booklets (details events in Chicago promoting biking), there's a list in back of area retails (burbs too) that are offering 25 % off helmets through the 16th. Act fast! And you can email me if you'd like a list of those shops :)

Welcome to the forums!

I know it's not the question you asked, but here're a couple of Chicago area dealers that have a pretty big online presence... might be worth checking out the stores. (I haven't done any business with them, so I can't comment on them.)
