Riding around today and getting a lot of creaking. Started feintly, thought it to be my saddle. As it grows louder (and it does) I realize its coming from the crank area. Seems wosrt backpedaling on the left side. I.ve never worked on cranks and the like. Bottom bracket just need some grease? Is this easy enough to do?
remove, grease, and reinstall your chainring bolts.
try tightening your pedals

Bottom Brackets are the source of most creaks. Try removing it, degreasing BB and bb threadss in frame, and then reinstalling with grease.
Your bb bearings could be cooked, repack or replace bb unit, if the above fails.

Dirt might have worked its way into the BB threads, that's always a suspect. Also try removing your pedals and cleaning/regreasing the threads.

additionally, if you can remove the crank arms, grease the contact areas between arms and spindle of the BB.
Might as well get it all at once.
