Im looking to replace my frame, im hitting hte cross bar, and well, not really into that kind of thing...

I now have a Ralleigh Peak STX, 4130 Cromo, but would like to go aluminium for weight and stiffness, Im 5-8 and 185 I dont want a noodle...

Im dealing with a reputable bike shop, they have several GT frames, Zaskar's, through to Agressors. They assure me that warranty is not a problem, all of the people in the shop are on GT's, and several have been for the last 5 years, with no frame failures yet.

I can pick up a Zaskar, for $500 CDN, have a super light frame, that I can upgrade components to when the divetrain needs to be replaced.

Or,

Get a Kuahara frme, for about $275 CDN. this frame is just over 3.5 pounds, the GT is 3.3 pounds or less

Opinions?

sorry, also ment to ask,
disk tabs?
I can get either frame with or without disk tabs, I dont have them, but is it worht upgrading to them later?
Without is a cost savings.
Just wondering if it affects the strength / rigidity of the frame?

The Zaskar is a sweet frame, you really can't go wrong with it. Regarding disc tabs, if you're not going to upgrade to disc w/in the next 3 years forget about it! By then you'll want a new bike and you can get the discs on it!

Regarding Kuwahara, I didn't know they were into Mt. bikes. I had a BMX frame of theirs years ago, but haven't seen anything from them in at least 5 years.

With that, I'd suggest the Zaskar over the Kuwa.

Ok, I got the GT, but I got a bargin one, virtually the same geometry as the Zaskar, less than a third the price, weight is not an issue. one pound can be better lost on me than on the frame.

here she is, built her up last night.

Nice looking ride, love the colors. I also love the feel of the GT triple triangle frame. Very stiff and well made.

Is it not true that after Swinn bought GT they began to have financial problems? It's just something i've heard and wanted to verify.
Oh, and i gree with joe, those colours are pretty decent.:)

Yep, GT did go down hill after Mr. turner sold the name to Schwinn, I guess Schwinn after previously going bankrupt didnt need to pay the28? million for the initials!!:D

and yeah, the colours are why I bought it...

Seems that this is the frame that they sold as a Wal-Mart bike... ha!
