Anyone ever done one of these before? My sister is working for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and she found out about this ride. It's basically an all-expenses-paid trip to do a century ride in Monterey or Death Valley, CA. Of course the caveat is that you have to raise $3000. How hard is it to raise $3000? Does knocking on doors work? Sounds to me like the experience of a lifetime... but I wanna know first if its plausible before I get too excited.

In case anyone else is interested in doing it too:

If you live in a bigger town, it is a lot easier to get sponsors. I went sponsor cruising last year for our local cancer society, we have a walk/bikeathon, just basically do laps around blocks. I found that business are really receptive to sponsoring, especially when they find out I can take a dig pic of their business front and make a sticker to put on my back for the day. I raised a little over a grand with just 5 business sponsors and 10 personal sponsors.

I saw some people riding stationary bikes in the middle of downtown boston to bring attention and donations to an aids ride. I thought it was a great idea.
