Sounds like a nice bike to me, but why cut the bars? don't they give you more leverage for turning or something... ?

yes they were; and still are popular. I'm not sure but i think standard created 1 1/8 inch headtubes and were the first bikes with lifetime warranties. I'm probably wrong

All i have to say about Standard is Rick Moleterno.

Moliterno, and so what? The guy might be a great rider, but he's supposed to be shady as hell with his warranties, from what I've been told.
