Is it me or does the bike lane just disappear when you get halfway through brooklyn where bedford turns into a 1 way road, merges with another street, and turns into this ungodly 4 lane wide mess? Seems like there'd be enough room for it.

I know... I rode that route about two weeks ago from "start to finish" and made better time than most of the cars.

Really? Cause right after the bike lane ends, I get whipped by the cars, they're moving at 35-40mph.
It's freaking dangerous cause there's very little room to go unless you're in traffic but it's the most direct route I can find to work...
Maybe I'll go back to my old route...

you're talking about right before Castle Greyskull, right? You're probably better off staying away from that shyte. No love for the bikes around there...

It's between atlantic and flushing on bedford that it goes nuts.

never was crazy about the conditions of that street. not just the traffic, but all the debris and potholes. unfortunately, for me it's also a very direct route to the wburg bridge..

yes - i take bedford sometimes. i know exactly the spot your talking about. it's very strange and feels pretty dangerous right where the merge happens. it's also weird that this is the road featured as the perferred route on the NYC bike maps.

Ur right, I just checked the bike map, I thought it was a dashed line (which meant cautionary route) but it's actually a dotted line right after the merge, which is a "preferred route - sufficient width and/or light traffic."
4 lanes of 40+mph traffic with no shoulder to bike on is hardly sufficient width for a bike nor light traffic.

i use ocean ave to commute into nyc. i was think about trying bedford because it has a bike lane but i'll guess i'll sctracth it off my list  it may be out of the way for you but the service road on ocean pkway is ok
