Road Cycling - Shimano versus Campy

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just thought it would be cool to see the different opinons between the two. I have noticed that riding new Shimano rides great, but as it gets more broken in it starts to suck. Campy I find the opposite, sucks when it is new, but give it 500-1000km, and it shifts great.

I don't mean to be a pain, or anything, but this really has been done before. In fact, it's one of the oldest discussions in roadie world, right along with "compact vs. traditional geometry," "clinchers vs. sew-ups," "steel vs. aluminum vs. titanium vs. carbon fibre," "clipless vs. clips-and-straps" [okay, that's an oldie...].
See this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8000&highlight=campagnolo) and this thread. (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7962&highlight=campagnolo)
Now, that doesn't mean we don't want to hear your opinion or discuss it further -- I love comparing the raletive merits of the different vendors' groups. Just wanted you to know that it had been discussed before. :D
I vote for Suntour superbe

I concur. (Suntour Cyclone ain't bad, either!)
I had cyclone on a Lambert
(actually Viscount) and never had a problem
with it. I really miss the stuff.
I saw some NOS subperbe on e-bay for
ridiculous prices. Of course Suntour
winner freewheels are always in demand.
Shame about suntour, really.

SunTour is still around but has limited availability. Sidetrak, in Seattle, WA. www.sidetrak.com or SunTour is at: www.srsuntour.com Any LBS should be able to order from sidetrak, although I'm not sure if there is a minimum order requirement.
But SunTour has several suspension forks, a Disc Brake, Cassettes, Chainrings, Derailleurs... I doubt, though, that the old stuff you guys are talking about is still available from them.
My favorite, though, is SACHS --preSRAM. (Haven't used any of the new stuff, so can't comment.)

how was the suntour sprint back inlike 1990 and what was it compared to in shimano terms.. what would it compare to today lol
honestly
Can't help you with that one. My catalogs don't go back that far.
ST Superbe was the good stuff. I've still got a first generation r. derailleur that I put on a Motobecane (to replace a Huret) sometime around 1979. It's currently in a box but it'll ride again and will do a fine job when it does.
WorldIRC I took a stab at your question in my last post on the thread about your (maybe) bike. Look to where I edited. Remember that's all IMHO, other's may not agree.
