As a photographer and aspiring filmmaker, I am continually amazed by certain DPs. At the top of the list is Christopher Doyle. The quality and range of his work is absolutely amazing. He is the DP behind:
Chunking Express
Fallen Angels
Last Life in the Universe
Hero
Happy Together
Motel Cactus
Away With Words
First Love: The Litter on the Breeze
The full list goes on for about six pages. Every time I need new visual fodder I find some obscure film of his on eBay and happily await the bootleg in the mail. I seriously cannot get enough of his work.
Is anyone else here a Chris Doyle fan? Who are some of your other favorite cinematographers? I'm too tired to dig through my notes right now, but I also really like the cinematography in films like The Thin Red Line, Dragon Heat, and just about anything directed by SABU (especially Monday).
