Training & Nutrition - Gatorade Lemonade

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
It rocks! I got a 24 oz, and I thought it was the lemon-lime, and then when I drank it, I found that I was quickly introduced to this new gatorade. It tastes like that slightly sugary lemonade your mom used to make on a hot afternoon. I've been craving it for days afterwards, but they're all out at the store, and none of my other haunts sell it yet.
Waaaaaaaaaah! I want my gatorade lemonade! Now!

do they sell the bulk powder in this flavor ?
I don't know. But if they do, I'm snortin' it! :D

I did a little googling and found these two kids with their "lemonade stand" at sporting events:

Complete with hand-drawn lemonade sign. Cute little promotion, but the kids couldn't look any more bored.

I recently been buying it since Safeway (grocery store) was having there 10 for $10 sale so I was stocking up and picked up a couple and I must say pretty tasty.

Didn't they make this about 18 or 20 years ago and then took it off the market and now have reintroduced it. It was my favorite back then if my memory serves me correctly.
Oh man, it's so good. I think I may just grow out my pinky or get a pack of razors! :D
Seriously, though... it tastes so good. It's killing me not being able to find it. Next week, I'm heading over to Sam's Club to see if I can find it there. If so, I'm getting a whole bunch. I'm planning to partially freeze them so I can get some ice crystals going on a hot day when I'm doing a long ride. I think when I got to that stuff I'd nearly pee my pants in relief. ;)

Our Sams Club carries it and I do like it to. Best gatorade flavor by far.
It is in a 24 pack with I think rasberry lemonade. 12 each. The rasberry is not that great though.

On Koffee's word, I bought three gallon-sized jugs of the stuff - three for $10. Man, oh man. The stuff is as good as promised. It is amazing (thank god, because I've got three gallons of the stuff!) and worth a special trip to the store. If anyone finds it in powder form, let me know! I got it at Publix in Atlanta.

Cruised down the Safeways aisle and saw them, 10 for $10.
You were right, Koffee. Damn good stuff.
They're not listing the powder on their website yet... :(
yeah, something about lemonade. During my last tour, 9 times out of 10 whenever I felt thirsty, I was craving lemonade... I dont know what it is, I guess our bodies know that (real) lemonade is gooood stuff!
Just dont give in and think "Hey this Mikes Hard Lemonade might do the trick!" No it doesnt at all. Biggest mistake I made that whole day. :0

Something about the heat makes me crave lemonade. I don't know what it is. This is my friend last week holding my bike while I took a picture. We could not have just one, it was fantastic. It says "Lemonade 25 cents" on the blackboard.

I like it a lot too...But I also like the orange and the original flavor quite a bit.
I wish there was a true watermelon flavor.
I did a gatorade slushy with the lemonade gatorade today. I nearly killed my nephew when I came into my room and found out he'd slurped down one of my gatorades. He had the aqua colored gatorade, but he definitely prefers mine. The only reason why he still lives today is because I know you can't resist gatorade lemonade.
No powder here either. :( I don't think it's out yet, but I can't wait!
I think I need to send gatorade a letter or something. It's the bomb fershizzle.

And? Your point?
Koffee
Four reasons:
Post-exercise muscle damage was reduced markedly by a carb-protein beverage in the majority of cyclists in a recent study.
Fluid retention, i.e., hydration, is improved by adding protein to the carb-electrolyte beverage.
A carb-protein beverage (i.e., Accelerade) produces significant improvements in time to fatigue and reduction in muscle damage in endurance athletes compared with a carb-only beverage (e.g., Gatorade lemonade).
A high carbohydrate-protein beverage containing electrolytes (e.g., Accelerade) does better than the traditional 6% carbohydrate-electrolyte sports beverage (e.g., Gatorade lemonade) when performing glycogen-depleting exercise. Using a carb-protein beverage in comparison with a carb-only beverage results in a 55% greater time to exhaustion during a subsequent exercise bout at 85% maximum oxygen consumption (VO(2)max).
Saunders MJ, Kane MD, Todd MK. Effects of a carbohydrate-protein beverage on cycling endurance and muscle damage. Med Sci Sports Exerc. 2004 Jul;36(7):1233-8.
Williams MB, Raven PB, Fogt DL, Ivy JL. Effects of recovery beverages on glycogen restoration and endurance exercise performance. J Strength Cond Res. 2003 Feb;17(1):12-9.
Who says? The researchers at the Human Performance Laboratory at St Cloud State University in Minnesota, researchers at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, at the Human Performance Laboratory at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the Allied Health Sciences Center, Springfield College, Springfield, MA, and the Exercise Physiology and Metabolism Laboratory, Department of Kinesiology and Health Education, The University of Texas, Austin, TX.
Important research, I'd say.
And fructose-containing beverages are always a bad idea:
Murray R, Paul GL, Seifert JG, Eddy DE, Halaby GA. The effects of glucose, fructose, and sucrose ingestion during exercise. Med Sci Sports Exerc. 1989 Jun;21(3):275-82.
I have no doubt protein is necessary for muscle maintainence. However, you can get your protein after your exercise. By far, the most important aspect of nutrition during your ride is the carb aspect, not the protein aspect. If it was about the protein, you could just knaw on a steak for your ride and be set.

No, the whole point of the research is the addition of protein DURING the exercise. I agree that if we were to rank the importance of carbs versus protein during a ride, carbs are more important. But that misses the point. Clearly, if you read the research, the ingestion of a carb-protein drink improves performance over a carb-alone drink, and it does so significantly. You'd better get some protein during the exercise, if you want performance, recovery, hydration to improve and muscle damge to be reduced. Unless, of course, you don't believe what's happening at those exercise research centers nationwide.

Don't know how I survived on water, Gatorade and iced tea all these years.
+1 on the Gatorade Lemonade, Koffee, it's about the only Gatorade I'll drink anymore, but it still takes a back seat to iced tea with lemon for my rides....cuz the iced tea tastes better when it gets all warm. :)
