I'm a novice who just got done watching the 4 hr 2004 Tour De France DVD. The commentators pretty much said that Jan is a "beast", using 177 mm cranks, etc.

How big of a man is he and what size frame does he use? :)

Are you worried that you can't be a very good rider at your height (6'2")?

If so, I wouldn't, because, while most great climbers are on the short side, and most great road riders are under six foot, there are exceptions. Indurain is the obvious one, Ullrich ain't short (Tour de France winner), and I think Bjarne Riis is a bit under 6'1" -- he also won the Tour

He's not a beast by typical male sizing, but in the pro peloton he's pretty large. Not too many guys bigger than him other than sprinters. Magnus Backstedt (spelling) is a lot bigger than he isn't he?

I think they may also be referring to his power and the way he turns a bigger gear with raw power rather than the spinning technique many other cyclists employ.

In theory, maybe.

He gets down to 161 pounds on the last day of Le Tour.

His weight looks better now than it did this same time last year.

But it does make a large cyclist apparently. I am 6'1", 208 lbs and in every other aspect of life not considered much of a big man either..but in cycling I am big and fat (the fat part I don't disagree with anytime. I am reminded of it everyday when I get in the shower :D ) I will take my size right now considering I used to weigh 296lbs at my heaviest and 275 as little as 2 years ago.

Man he looks like he jsut got off a hunger strike in that picture doesn't he. He looks as if the weight of his clothes are a burden.

Look at Zabel in the background, he looks so much younger and it's only 4 years ago. All those 2nd places must be aging him.
