Fifty Plus (50+) - Legitimate excuse for playing hooky?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Two weekends ago I officially kicked off my season of riding and other outdoor activities when the weather was almost like summer. Having lived in Michigan these many years, I should have known better ;) . So, after doing my first long ride and having planned my next, last weekend we returned to winter with fury: several inches of wet snow falling all weekend with ferocious winds to boot! No problem to postpone my plans a bit -- par for the course in these parts. But then, after a cool but dry week, the forecast is for another cold, windy, and very wet weekend :( .

But, this Friday afternoon is the best weather of the week, partly sunny and in the mid-50s or better, so as far as I am concerned this is a legitimate excuse to take the afternoon off for that 30-mile ride that I have been thinking about for the last two weeks :) . As I see it, my employer will be better off in the long run, as I won't be spending another week moping around and thinking about my training schedule.

Should I feel guilty? (I think I know the answer from this group ;) ).

What's there to feel guilty about? I do it constantly. Where I work, people are constantly saying that they will be working from home, and I just work from my bike seat instead.

No guilt at all!! You will feel better, be more focused when you return to work and will be an even greater asset to your employer (at least that is how it works for me!). I'm fortunate that with this electonic age I can do that occassionally and catch up with work at night as well. I have a number of folks I manage and would certainly work with them on those types of activities.

Of course you should feel guilty, all that extra burden you will putting on your workmates, and just face it, none of them suddenly go sick, causing you to pull your hair out as you will have to put in the extra work to cover their work. That thought should have lasted about as long as it took you to read this.

Just don't go into work next week and rave about the fantastic bike ride you had last errr.. Saturday.
