Anybody know of any resources for identifying a Peugot road bike or know much about them? We just got one used from a friend, and partly out of curiosity and partly to help with repairs/restoration, I'd like to identify when it was made and what model it is. It's got silver paint with blue lettering and checkerboard decal, Simplex triple up front and Simplex 6 speed rear, Vitus frameset, and Mafac Competition (I think) centerpull brakes (in case anyone knows anything about these bikes). And if you know where to get the straddle cables for these brakes (any that will work), I'd love to hear about that too. Thanks for any help.

The PXC-10 has cult status amongst Francophiles:http://www.classicrendezvous.com/France/PX10_history.htm

Do your Mafacs have the straddle wires with a little ball on each end or with a little cylinder on one end and a pear-shaped thing on the other?

Welcome to the Peugeot owners' club. You can estimate the age of your frame by comparing your decal pattern to those on the PX-10 website, although the 6-speed block suggests late 1970s or early 1980s. Vitus tubing is good material.

Feldman: The straddle cable has the little ball ends (although the brakes look like they would take the barrel kind pretty easily if I could find them in the right length).

John E: Thanks; although to be accurate, my girlfriend is in the Peugeot Owner's Club and I'm now in the Peugeot Mechanic's Club! :D (But I love tinkering with bikes, so I can't complain). ...and nice Bianchi tagline -- I ride one of those.

Thanks again
