I'm a newbie to the board and to riding. I need to exercise more and lose weight and I found my elliptical and home gym somewhat boring. Bicycling sounded like fun. My husband had given me a Raleigh Talon mountain bike back in the late 80's and it was in bad shape from years of neglect so I took it in and got it fixed up and started riding.

I live outside Austin in the Hill Country and my neighborhood is a little tough for a beginner so I got a rack for my car and started riding at the Veloway, a 3.1-mile paved two-lane, one-way bike loop. I absolutely love it and signed up for my first bike ride next weekend, the Armadillo Hill Country Classic. I hope to do 28 miles.

My husband and I are turning 50 this summer and I talked him into getting a bike. While shopping for his, I brought mine in to have slicks put on and discovered that my bike is too small for me. We both ended up with new Treks -- mine is an FX 7200 and his is a Navigator 200. Both are good beginner, training bikes.

Just yesterday, I got Shimano clipless pedals and a cadence computer. And I have Lance's book on order at Amazon. I'm ready to learn to spin!
