Bobsled
12-07-01, 09:59 PM
The result of my name being Robert. Anyway, here in California (as probably in many states) automobile license plates have a maximum of seven letters/numbers. So for my personalized plates and being how they’re on my car (aka sled) naturally I came up with bobsled. Makes sense doesn’t it? The reason I bring this up is because someone asked. So how about the rest of you?

Gus Riley is my USAF nickname, and my cat's name as well. Only his middle initial is P. (for Panther)! :D

Hey bulldog is a beatle's song.
I'm a Beatles fan.
My name is Gary Mason. Hmmm...not too clever, that. OTOH, I have a ton of places that I frequently log on to, and I am too old to remember a bunch of different User IDs. I get hacked off when someone is already there, and I have to use 'gmason4' or something like that. Life is sometimes very hard. ;)
Cheers...Gary
Chewa is a nickname my wife uses for me. Don't know why, but she likes it so I do too.

My real name (on my birth certificate) is Denver "C" Fox. But, I was born in San Diego, CA.
I was named for my dad, whose real name was Denver Colorado Fox. He was born in Santa Monica, CA. I was supposed to be Denver Colorado Fox, Jr., but the nurse in the hospital made an error on the birth certificate, and my mom was sort of dopey from the anesthetic and signed the birth certificate without reading it carefully.
My grandparents lived in Colorado (Marshall) north of Denver just prior to my dad's birth in Santa Monica about 1912, and ran a coal mine.
So, why am I not Marshall C Fox??
When my sister was born in San Diego, the newspaper called and wanted to know if her name would be "San Diego California Fox."
I now live in the Denver area. There used to be a lot of theaters nationally known as "Fox" theaters. There was a theater named the "Denver Fox Theater." I used to get phone calls asking what movie was playing (at the Denver Fox) that night.
When my wife and I got married, the clerk at the marriage license bureau almost refused to give us a license because I kept saying my name was Denver Fox, and she kept saying she wanted my name, not where I lived. The same thing happens to me continuously in phone conversations with mail-order or motel/hotel reservations, etc.!!
No one ever forgets my name - for better or worse!!
Confusing, isn't it.
I did not name my sons Denver Colorado Fox the third!!
!
Harry...
because I once had a computer called Harry. I don't know why I called it Harry. Actualyy I called it other names as well but they would not be suitable to use as a handle.
velocipedio
12-08-01, 06:04 AM
Because I am Giovanni Marco Velocipedio, a direct descendant of the inventor of the first bicycle, after whom it -- the velocipede -- was named.
That is my story, and I'm sticking to it.

My Great Grandfather was the guy who first started making the cheap steel bikes that are sold to X-Marts. I am ashamed of my horrible past, but I must look to the future. This is why I will only buy cheap aluminum bikes. ;)
Captain Crunch
12-08-01, 07:43 AM
I just changed my handle to Captain Crunch after visiting my massage therapist a couple of weeks ago. It was the first time seeing this one and when she started to work on my shoulders she told me how "crunchy" I was. As she continued on she kept referring to the crunchiness and then penned me with the name Captain Crunch. I liked it so much I asked Joe if he would change my login name to match.
Thanks again Joe.
Mike;)

Klein Mantra Pro 1999 is mine, after my great bike.
"Nobby" is a traditional name for all "Clarks". I am a Clark. I was given the nick in 66 when I joined the navy. It's pretty much stuck. There are a few stories about the origin of the nick, none of which have ever been confirmed, but apparently it started in the UK WAY back in the days of sail. Evidently it's an old Royal Navy traditional nick.
In my youth, I also had knobby knees, which is of course, of no consequence at all.
My paternal grandmother, who was born in Surrey but lived much of her life in Hawaii, liked to be called "TuTu" (Hawaiian for grandmother), but said anything was OK except "Granny." When I was 12, I started calling her "Granny," and she retalliated by calling me "Johnnie -- well, he is John E., you know." This good-natured "feud" lasted until she died several years ago, at 92. When I needed a forum handle, this seemed like a nice memorial.
The Eldon surname apparently goes back to clan MacIntosh, as a variant of "Elder." By tradition, the firstborn males have been named John and Charles in an alternating generational pattern.

Mine's due to one of my other hobbies, flying, some of which I do upside down (some times even intentionally!). It also used to be part of my email address, until I changed ISP's and couldn't get it with the new one, and was thus easy to remember as a logon.
velo = bike
Very simple, I know... :)
My nick name is "MikeR" because my name is Mike Reedich. Now, some of you may think that's not very original right?
Well consider this - my nick used to be "Mike R" befor I lost a little weight.

If someone was quoting movie lines at me all the time, I know what I'd say ;)

I thought Walter Raleigh invented the bike.
I suppose he didn't invent the potato either...

Incidently, my handle is pretty straightforward, but I should mention at this point that it would certainly not be unique in my family. My father is also named Chris, as is my grandfather. Somehow, things have so far failed to get confusing.
My parents named me Greg.
Nebraska=NE; Bill=me, hence, nebill!
I thought about changing it to "Fujidude" but then along came the Paramount! Lets, see, "parafuji?" Or maybe "SRP" for my string of bikes? (Sagres, Roubiax, Paramount) Or "SaRaPara?"
Naw, just stick with nebill!!

Nope, he invented the cancer stick.
'Twas my great-great-great-grandfather, Tullio Septimio Velocipedio who invented the bike. He also won the first classic day race, the Cremona-Livorno, in 1883.

A F Baker
12-09-01, 05:11 PM
When I went to get a name at BikeForums there was already an A. Baker as well as an Andrew B. For that reason I took A F Baker. Andrew is my first name, and my middle initial starts with F.
I could have gone with something related to my favorite velo. I ride a GIANT bicycle. Combined with my name that would be Andrew the Giant. I didn't use this because some of you may remember Andre' the Giant: http://www.puroresu.com/wrestlers/andre/
This may make you think I'm a fan of wrestling; I didn't want that to happen.

Well, as I remember, FUBAR had a rather specific (and not so nice) meaning in the military (and other places, I might add). I won't use the terminology herre, as this is a public forum!!
One can say "FOULed Up Beyond All Recognition," without invoking that very old Anglo-Saxon legal acronym meaning, "for unlawful carnal knowledge."
Rich after Richard.
but it can also be used as
Rich "in humour"
Rich "in meaty goodness"
Rich "in Vitamins A, and E"
etc, etc.

Fouled up beyond all repair....5 times?
Fouled up beyond any repair ....5 times?
Fouled up beyond any recognition....5 times?
I don't recall the 5? Just kidding. After 26 years in the USAF, especially as a weapons person, I'm well aware what the acronym stands for. :)
And I have a whole bag full of acronyms that are both officially descriptive as well as unofficial. I was able to keep up with Robin Williams in Radio Saigon without blinking once!
We made Budweiser an acronym as well, care to hear it? :)

Whoever made up the word FUBAR was a stinkin' genious!!! SNAFU is ok. BOHICA is a little wierd though. I think FUBAR was probably the original, and then some other dudes were copy cats.
Jean Beetham Smith
12-10-01, 06:30 PM
Well, my dad named me Jean. When I married, my mother-in-law advised me not to take her son's last name, Smith; that I would come to regret it. So I compromised and just use my maiden name as my middle name all the time, because yes, she was right!
Weasel. Because I look like one....apparently.
Raptor - 'cause when I'm on two wheels I feel like I'm flying:D
pat5319
12-11-01, 12:37 AM
Pat- my first name plus 5319 The 53X19 is my favorite big ring gear to cruise in when after I'm getting out of the "spin development riding" I do at the beginning of every year and I use it when I'm in shape when loafing or recovering. (I do use the small ring quite a bit too, I rarely use the big ring under 18 to 20 mph.)
