Im not a roadie but i have this question, with offroad stuff thers always that point whewre as you pay higher to get lighter you start sacrificing durability. Like with shimano i believe XT is their most durable group. So my question to you folks is what is the most durable shimano group? I suspect its ultegra or 105. Im talking about all their stuff but in particular the hubs, if you can just give info about the hubs thats appreciated too. Thanks all

I've seen this question asled before. Ultegra is considered to be a better hub than 105. Apparently the seals and tolerances are better. I know Dura Ace is lighter though.

I have 105 hubs.

surely there must be some large roadies out there...anybody?I don't think a large person is going to necessarily break one quicker than the other. This durability question cones up all the time, and it's jsut a stinky dead fish. The DA 9 BB got a bad rap,but that had alot to do with improper installation.

I have 105 hubs.I have mostly ultegra hubs,some DA,no issues.

I have DA hubs, if I didn't break them, they will survive anything short of loaded cross country touring. I think of Ultegra as the 'sweet spot' for hubs.

I noticed the DA7800 hubs are a lot lighter than the new ultegra 6600 hubs. Is that because it has more aluminum in it?

6600 hubs, Can they use a 9s cassette or are they like the 7800 hubs and 10s specific only?

PlantomCow, at one time 6500 hubs were the same price as 105 at performance ($54 hubset with 20% off)

Hmmm. Other than breaking out the spoke holes due to radial wheel laceing, I don't think that I've ever heard of somebody actually breaking a hub.

Ultegra and 105 hubs have different axle sealing systems. I like the Ultegra system better.

Da 10 hub bodies are aluminum and only take 10 speed cassettes. The ultegra 10 hub body is steel and can also use 8/9 cassettes.
