My BF just got a bike two weeks ago - finally! - and now we're glad to be able to join the STL bike community. I'm eager to meet and talk with other bikers in the STL area, especially because we're REAL beginners and could use tips on trails in the area. Hope you get in touch! Glad to be here :)

try Castlewood if you haven't already
as you get better ... try the Chub
but be warned..... get better first.......

I used to live in St.Louis. Actually, it's my home town and I think the city kinda sucks somewhat for biking. It's so spread out. I was visiting last Sept., and I noticed bike lanes along South Grand. It's about time!!!

For a pleasant ride, head across the Missouri River to the Katy Trail. It's a flat rails-to-trails route along the river with a ton of trailheads. http://www.bikekatytrail.com/

I grew up in the north part of St. Louis County (close to where the Missouri River does its final little jog to the north before dipping into the Mississippi). Used to ride up that way on the two-lane back roads. Not sure how crowded that area has become since moving away 10 years ago, though.

Lots of hills to the south/southwest, too.

I think Ziggurat lives down in St. Louis. He may know places or have tips for you....

I used to live in Dogtown, and God willing, we will go back once I finish grad school. Bike lanes on S. Grand? Wow. We are thinking of moving to the neighborhoods near there. But I always found the city pretty bike-unfriendly, unfortunately. It seems, however, as though this is changing. Welcome to the Forums, by the way.
