Mountain Biking - Mongoose back into building real bikes again?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My ALD is quite real :). I do like the one you've posted, it's just out of my price range.
I have a good mongoose. Also my mate bought a black diamond double and put Boxxer Teams on it, it is so nice and pedals like the I-drive system. Also a couple of their DJ bikes look to be the stuff and Marsh has but his Black Diamond Triple through hell and it's holding up so they do have strength.

They are making good bikes. But there is another Mongoose which is still producing crap ones too (I think). Basically if its a Mongoose bought from a bike shop, theyre good.

Same company. Sorta like Sdhwinn selling crappy bikes at sprawl mart and selling decent ones at the LBS level. The thing is it screws the customer. Why should I buy a Mongoose from a shop when I can get one at Sprawl-Mart for half the price

Exactly right.
So is the 2004 Mongoose Syncome junk, truely junk, or can I use it a year on dirt roads and paths? Got it from AFFES (military base) for 169 out the door.

It seems like the good Mongoose and to the same extent, GT bikes I've seen are being marketted outside the US whereas the ones in the US are strictly the junk ones being sold at Wal-Marts. I've also only seen the "new Schwinns" at Target although Supergo was selling some Schwinn roadbikes. It maybe just me but I haven't seen Mongoose or GTs in any LBSes around here.

Does this look like a wal-mart bike to you? :D

My guess is, like you said, there probably arent any around your area.

Nope and that's my point.

I'm wondering if there was a conscious decision on the part of Mongoose or whoever is controlling their marketting strategy to not participate in the bikeshop market in the US but to only do so outside the US. Or I wonder if US bikeshop owners simply were not willing to sign up as dealers. Either way, I wonder if there will eventually be a resurgance of Mongoose dealer agreements in LBSes at some point much like what's happened with Scott. Although one could argue that Scott's situation was a bit different than what happened with Mongoose.

It looks like a beefed-up and modified Schwin. ;)
