I am 46, have just returned to cycling, and have discovered that I also have advanced patellar arthritis. I found out yesterday, and am a little bummed out about it right now. I really want to continue cycling, it makes me feel so good, and am a bit perplexed about the next step. I will see my doc again in a week, and prob fro there go to a sports medicine doc for advice.
It may be a complication from an acl replacement I had 10 years ago. Apparently this can cause patellar tracking problems, as well as change the pressure applied to the backside of the patella itself. So, wish me well, I was just starting to look at commuting options so I could ride to work several days per week. This really does stink.
If you know of anyone who has gone through this, and has survived to blissfully cycle again, please let me know!
