Off Center Design
New DT Revolution 14/17 DB spokes front & left rear

Butted (reduced) spokes – the smaller diameter in the middle of the spoke lends the spoke the mechanical properties that are needed in light, fast wheels that are subjected to extreme conditions.
DT Swiss has developed its own technology for reducing the diameter of the spoke: CFT cold forging technology!
The spoke wire is forged and not drawn – only from DT Swiss!
New Sapim Race 14/15 DB spokes right rear

Sapim butted spokes have two major benefits: less weight and more strength!
Technological advances using cold forging (SAPIM Forging Technology) 'stretch' the spoke, retaining the linear molecular structure of the material, thereby increasing the spoke strength at the middle by at least 48%.
As an added bonus, the thin middle section of the Race spokes also provides better shock absorption.
New DT standard plated Brass Nipples @ 36 grams per rear wheel

Actual Rear Wheel with QR Skewer Weighs 994 grams

Actual Front Wheel with QR Skewer Weighs 800 grams.

Wheels are radially and laterally trued.

Spokes are aligned to follow the shortest path from hub to rim.

Spokes have all residual wind up removed.

The hubs are also centered exactly in the middle of the wheels.

The spoke tension is optimized in steps.

The wheels are stress relieved several times.

All these efforts provide long term stability and reliability in the wheels

I have built over 500 Wheels.

Wheels are 100% new and never ridden.

What you guys think?

Price is 270

I think they are good xc wheels for a decent price .

They are not disc compatible if you are looking to upgrade to discs in the future.

and, they are not something you should put on a y26.

Think dubs on a chevet.

Spokes are aligned to follow the shortest path from hub to rim.

This is false...they're not radially laced.

Those are for sale on Ebay from Dave Ornee, right?

I just got a 28-hole front wheel from him that is the same as you're looking at - 'cept for the 4 spokes anyway!

It's a very nice wheel. Perfectly true, perfectly evenly tensioned - at least as far as my hyper-accurate ( ;) )fingers can tell. He certainly knows what he'd doing in the wheel-building department.

He shipped it really fast, and the wheel was well protected. Shipping price was reasonable ($10 - $15).

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another wheel from him.

Raiyn,

Are those rims better than the ones on ebay? Are they lighter? They sure are cheaper! Pricepoint does not really give much specs on them.

Yes they are from Dave Ornee. Whats the diffrence between 32 and 28 spokes other than less spokes? Pros vs. Cons.

Well, I guess theoretically they might be a bit less strong. But I figure with as many people out there riding radial-laced front wheels, 28 spokes 3-cross is plenty strong.

You do save the weight of 4 spokes, nipples and eyelets. That gets to be pretty significant.

Don't get hung up on it. If those wheels look right, go for them. They're excellent wheels. You can get really hung up on the details and pay a bunch more money than you need to. I would have chosen a Mavic 517 rim, Chris King hub and alloy nipples if I had my choice. But that would have cost be $220+ and my wheel was $99. Sure the other rim might have been marginally better - I dunno - maybe 5% better? But for more than twice the money?

Those wheels from Ebay are definitely better than those ones from Pricepoint. Better hubs (marginally), better rim, WAY better spokes (DT Revolution are the BEST IMHO).

I believe you'd need a 7-speed freehub. I can't remember if spacing is an issue - it's been a LONG time since I converted to 8-speed. That might be a big catch. Not really sure..........

Im not to hung up thats for sure, im probably going to get those rims, i just want to make sure that they fit my bike without having to do to much modding.
