View Full Version : Anyone know about KMX Trikes?
http://www.kmxus.com
They offer two trikes(adult and child). They are heavy but I'm not doing any races either. It would mostly be my daughter and I peddling around the neighborhood or a local Rails to Trails ride. It would be a great way for us to have fun together, provided the quality is good.
Any thoughts on this trike? Skip and save for a Catrike Road? Looks good, go for it? Anyone, anyone...........

A search on BROL will get you some opinions. There is one owner who has posted there and answered some questions from others. I think a KMX is in hand for testing at BROL as well. As far as your daughter goes, it is the only trike of this type available.

Well for your current needs, the KMX would fulfill it for you. As Chip said, though, that is you daughter's only choice for a youth trike.
But if you get into it and your daughter goes onto other things, you may desire to do more on your trike like tour, etc. In that respect, the Catrike is the better buy for the long run.
Thanks for the response guys. I'll probably end up with a Catrike Road. I feel its a better buy(even though its twice as much) and will be easier to sell if I decide to do so. And it weighs less. If my daughter shows lots of interest in my trike I'll try the Kmx since its really the only choice.
Ooooh, that KMX sure looks shiny though, and the price is right. It's actually approaching sane levels! I think it's absolutely nuts that companies like Greenspeed charge over $4000 for a recumbent. How the heck are they supposed to build a large customer base at prices like that? Consider the average consumer, shopping for a new bike. They see a $500 Trek DF, and a $4000 Greenspeed. What are they going to choose?
Yes, I know that Trek produces bikes in such high volumes that they can sell bikes for so little. But does it really cost $4000 to weld an aluminum frame, stick on standard bike parts, and paint the whole thing using the same process as anyone else? Greenspeed's profit margins are probably astronomical.
Don't complain about the lack of bent riders on the road, and lack of bents in stores. Complain about the insane price tags these companies demand!
Yeah, the pricing is crazy on some of them. I would think since it only has one more tire and a slightly larger seat the price would be about 1/3 more but then my thinking isin't all it should be:) Thats what lead me to the Catrike. Better pricing and quality that appears to be as good as any other trike.
A review of the adult KMX has been posted on BROL.

Anyone have anything to add regarding the kmx x-class based on recent experience?
Due to budget considerations I'm debating the pros and cons of this bike versus the slightly more expensive Catrike Pocket. Since I'll be using it mostly for commuting on less than ideal roads/paths, and not for long rides, the x-class has some appeal, but I'm wondering if anyone has discovered negative aspect of the bike that I may not be considering. Thanks in advance and, by the way, I've already seen the review on bentrider, but I'm looking for comments based on everyday use.
