I bought a new 2003 Specialized Epic for $999.99 today.
It has an 80mm Fox Float fork and The Brain rear shock.
Avid 5 brakes front and rear. How did I do?

(P.S. I ride fixies on the road.)

If it's all in good shape you did good.You are now on the dirt side. :D

I can't answer that yet, but I'm getting too old to be spinning down roads at nearly forty mph without coasting!!! I need a little comfort. Actually, this bike is my motivation to recover from shoulder reconstruction and the suspension will really help.

What can anyone tell me about the Epics?

If it's all in good shape you did good.You are now on the dirt side. :D

It's brand new, except for a bit of shop dust. Some guy had put it on layaway but would up getting married.
His loss is my new bike. (Bringing my total to lucky thirteen.)

I'm off next week and I do hope to get it dirty.

I still prefer fixies on the open road. I have seven of them, but only have two geared roadies.

Epics are awesome bikes for XC. Not really good for doing 5 foot drops. Of course if your rehabing, neither is your shoulder.

This whole coming to the Dark side stuff.... if I have plans on getting a Pista or Langster or IRO Mark V does that still make me part of the dark side?

Man I love riding fixed but I'll always have a thing for trails. The epic was a wise choice.
