General Cycling Discussion - Rheumatoid flare up has me grounded

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Do any of my fellow/sister cyclists out there have experience with rheumatoid/connective tissue disorders? I ask because I've had my first flare since I got serious about cycling. This time it attacked my internal organs rather than the joints. Been sick since Friday. It seems the flare is on its way out now and I'm left feeling like I've been hit by a truck. It's been almost 24 hours since I last had fever and I feel so guilty for not getting on that bike. When will I know I'm ready to ride again? God I do hope it's soon. I miss the road.

Wow that sounds nasty. I don't know what it is, but it just sounds bad attacking you organs. Go out and ride. If a little feels good you can go furthur if not only go a little. That is the best way to find out when to start riding again.
Good luck

I did a little (and I do mean a LITTLE) riding. It's been a week since my last ride. The legs have no energy. My calves started burning after only a mile. Incredible. My sister's telling me it's because I'm not recovered yet. I'd hate to think I "lost" it already. There's some big rain moving in for the next couple of days. I just hope there's a break in the clouds somehwere for me to get just a little road time in. Don't need much. A half hour would be enough.
This is really depressing. Could use some cheering up:(

I'm sure it is because you are recovering. Does this Rum stuff come back or what?
Anyway I'm sure you will be back soon. As for ther rain I would think it might be just as good to ride in. I sweat so much that I'm not sure I would be weter in the rain.:)
Do have a trainer so you can ride inside and in short amounts?
Hang in there!

Thanks Joe for the feedback. I'm feeling much better today. Pretty close to normal. I took the road bike out this morning for a spin around the neighborhood and was able to muster some good cadence. Tomorrow I'm going back on the road. I'm hydrating and eating good today looking forward to it.
