General Cycling Discussion - Shimano Nexave Components

I can't seem to find any reviews or information about Shimano Nexave components and how they rate...one dealer told me they are special components made specifically for hybrids and stopped there without giving me a good idea of what to compare them to.

How do they rank according to Shimano standards, i.e, better or worse than the Shimano Deore ?

Different market... They are meant for the comfort bikes. They're actually not too bad for the commuter market either. They will not stand up to racing, offroad riding or any other type of performance cycling. If that's the group with the backward (rapid rise) rear derailleur (C-101 & C-201) I'd rank it a distant last in the Shimano offerings. I hate 'em! After that derailleur gets a little bit of wear, it doesn't like to shift into the bigger rear cogs reilably and it kind of waits to shift until it's ready, not when you're ready. I'd MUCH rather work with Deore.

Are other models of Shimano rapid rise equally bad, or is this weak spring problem endemic to the design? I'm thinking of putting one on my daughter's mixte frame before she leaves for grad school.

I honestly don't know. Since I've had bad experience with the low cost derailleur I'm reluctant to spend money to try higher priced version of the same thing. Besides, I can't think of a reason not to stick with traditional, high normal, rear derailleurs.

I know this thread has been dead for a while. Still it is top ten on google nexave, so i thought i might contribute with my latest experience regarding the unstable shift to higher gears. In my case on a ST-t300. The part with the problem is actually not visible at the shimano pdf (http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/techdocs/content/cycle/EV/bikecomponents/ST/EV-ST-T300-S-1971_v1_m56577569830609303.pdf), So i took a picture with my phone. It's just a little spring, that's getting slack after a while.

On the picture you can see the thumb shifter for right hand. The little silver-part is supposed to grasp the cog wheel with the cable, but if the spring is to sloppy, then it wont.
