Mountain Biking - Today's cost: 200 bucks

Well, today didn't feel right since I woke up. I went to biking to cheer up, but that made it even worse. Rear derailleur and the hanger is broken. A piece of wood, thinner than my index finger, hit my leg first and got stuck between the chain, derailleur and the spokes. It came from nowhere. Surprisingly nothing happend to the wheel, and it is still true. Bad bad day...

is that actual carbon? Make the SRAM x.7 your next derailleur. Its under 40 bucks and is just as good as x.o and probably a lot more durable. Plus if you break that its a lot friendly on the purse to replace a 40 dollar unit as opposed to an x.0.

I second what phantomcow2 said, especially if you're training right now. For race day/week then you cna step it up to x.0 to save money in case you break it while training.

it is plastic, but that piece is still ok. The bolt that holds the bottom piece, and the bolt for b-tension adjustment are broken. And it is badly bent everywhere. I'll ask my LBS if it is fixable, but I have no hope. Yea, I'll probably get something cheaper.

That. Sucks. Balls. 200 buckos down the drain.

Actually, I bet it is fixable. There are little circlips on the pivots and you can take it apart.

I would probably get a new derialleur, the only way to totally fix something is to get a new one ;) or send it to Grip Sport in Aus and they'll fix it and gusset as much as they can.

Also you are one lucky, lucky man. I put two derailleurs through my rear wheel in 2weeks. That meant new derialleurs, chains and spokes both times:(

Just came back from the bike shop. Unfortunately there is no way to fix the derailleur. I have to get a new one. The good news is, there is no damage on the frame or the wheels. I got the hanger too, and it cost $15.

For the SRAM X.0 derailleur the bike shop price is about $300 :eek: The cheapest price I could find online is $126.99 at Alfred E. Bike (http://aebike.com/site/page.cfm?Affiliate=1&PageID=30&SKU=RD4620). Has anyone shopped from them before?

Anyways, meanwhile I'll also think about getting an X.7 or X.9
