Mountain Biking - Marzocchi X-Fly

Anybody have any experience with this fork? Looking at the 2001 X-Fly 80 or 100. Is this a big step up from a Judy XC?

IMHO yes there is a HUGE difference. Marzocchi forks are far more durable, and in most cases stiffer. There is almost zero maintenance with Marzocchi, and the overall feel of the fork is smoother. They typicaly weigh a little more if you pay attention to weight. However in my experience you cannot go wrong with Marzocchi.

It's actually lighter than my Judy XC. I was also looking at the Z3 and the Atom Race. Haven't checked the prices on the Race yet though. Probably too expensive. I can't see much difference in the Atom and the X-Fly though. These forks are all so closely specced it's really confusing.

I just sold my Superfly on Ebay. It was a great fork, super light and really well made. Even though I didn't maintain it as much as I should have, it kept working like a dream.

I'd deffo recommend it :D

What about the Z3? Any good? They have some good prices on them right now. And I think my Judy shot craps today. Haven't taken it apart yet, but it's really loose and noisy all of a sudden.

The Z3 is a great fork. My wife ride a Z4 and likes it just fine. Diff. between the 3 and 4 adjuster knobs. I have ridden it and I even have a 99 z5 flylight air, never any problems plenty strong (I weigh 190 to 200** and super reliable.

Thanks for the input. I took my Judy apart awhile ago. Blew both seals out of it. Oh darn, time for a new fork. ;)

Sorry man! If you are lke many other's and your Rock Shox is older than 2000 you are S.O.L. on getting replacement parts.

It's a 2001 so hopefully I can find some. I'd like to put it on my other bike if I can get it fixed.
I finally decided on the Z3, polished with red lettering, low pressure air. Now I can't find one anywhere!!!!
I hate shopping for forks.
Might look at the MXC- ECC.

The MXC - ECC gets excellent reviews this side of the pond - all the magazine reviews I've seen have given it top marks, or if you want coil sprung the MXR is supposedly equally good (they replace the old z4/z5). The general comments are that they're the only sub £200 forks people should consider, and perform as well as many forks almost twice their price.

Thanks for all the help and advice. I love shopping for bike stuff but forks are a pain. After much deliberation and many phone calls, I finally decided on the MXR. It's a little better in the valving than the MXC-ECC. And I passed on the free headset and got the air caps and second-day shipping instead.
With the air caps the fork can be coil or air damping.
