Hope I don't get chastised for placing this on the Forums, but I thought the enlightened over 50 crowd might be somewhat more tolerant of my license
There are VERY few lost or abandoned dogs where I live, so when I saw a little lost, collarless guy the other day I stopped and tried to offer it some water, he was very cautious about getting near me but after a while he came and drank all that I had with me.
Then he followed me home so I gave him more water and some dog food which he scarffed down. I have a Scottie who never met a person or other dog he didn't like, so I let them togther for a bit and things were fine. I had to do some things so I left water outside the door and returned a few hours later and he was still there, so I put more water and a towel down for the lil guy overnite.
Next AM he was there when I took my dog for a walk and he came along with us
I made some signs an hung them and put one in the local organic food store, and another in the Publix.
Meantime he was happy staying with us.
A week later I had a fone message about him from someone who thought the lil guy was their dog who disappeared a few weeks earlier, and it turned out he was their dog
So a happy ending
While cleaning out some files I came across a clipping from a paper in Houston when I lived there which I had saved for years, it follows
LUCKY DOG
On our way home from camping, we saw him about 5 miles from Sam Houston Park, walking down the middle of the highway as if his little short legs would carry him no farther.
We picked him up, put him in the truck between us, and he laid his head on my husband's lap, worn-out and sleepy. That sold us
We reported hin found, no one claimed him-----someone's loss was our gain
Sam was our loving companion, faithful friend, and a full fledged comedian. God gave him to us for five happy years, and then it happened. A sort of paralysis--no more running, walking or even standing up---just lying down, his dark eyes following our every move. The he was gone
How we loved Sam. and how we miss him
When you think about dumping your dog on some road, think again. Sam was lucky---your dog may not be
