Mountain Biking - Freeride video game?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was playing around trying to show a girl what freeride was, she still doesn't understand, and I stumbled upon this. Freeride game (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.mlisite.com/images/ss18_big.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.mlisite.com/&h=768&w=1024&sz=108&tbnid=qYgSH973JosJ:&tbnh=112&tbnw=149&hl=en&start=2&prev=/images%3Fq%3DFreeride%2Bmountain%2Bbiking%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26rls%3DRNWE,RNWE:2004-29,RNWE:en) Pretty insane!

Oh no, I wouldn't buy it haha. I just thought it was interesting. It would suck if you had to keep your balance all the time though.

Been there played that. Didn't like the original demo a couple of years ago. The rotating perspective gives me a headache

Yeah the symbol is awesome! Nothing beats riding around with a skull on your helmet
I have never been impressed or saw much point with most cycling video games. The only game I'd like to see ported to a console or PC would be PropCycle.

Too slow and too much air.

Ive got a game for Ps2 called Downhill Domination, and its wicked. the graphics are pretty lame but it never goes all glitchy or anything. it got real bikes and some real riders like EC and Brian Lopes, and when you complete the coreer with each rider you get a free biography video thing of that rider. Also there are vids of Technical Downhill, MX, Freeride and Crashing. Its damn good really!

It is. I own it and beat everything in it. Its like Tony hawk on a mountain bike on steroids. Some people complained about realism, but I guess for me, I didn't want a game held within the realm of reality, if I wanted that I would go ride ;)

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 was great. :D I remember I'd use to invite my friend over and we'd stay up till like 3 or 4 am just trying to beat a level. Whyever did I sell it? :p

In the Downhill Domanation game, do the shocks on the bike actually work? I would love to have a game were you start of with a stock bike and work your way up to something really good and you can add parts to them, and have accidents like broken forks.

You can change the fork. And you can definately tell the diff between lots of travel, short travel and a ht. I found it pretty impressive how realistic the feel was.
I assume you mean fork?...if not then no...bikes have diff travel but you can't change the shock itself.
There was a company a while back called CycleFX that produced several accessories for both PC/Windows and PlayStation2. These included a special trainer attachment and front fork controller hookup to register inputs directly from your bike. They also sold their own special stationary spinning bike for those who didn't want to hook up their own bike to a trainer. The software and interface was supposed to work with many popular games as well as training programs. They were bought by Peak Training Systems but I think the product got canned. Peak still offers a more modest computer interfaced trainer though but it only works with their boring training software. The original CycleFX also worked with popular games that were not bike-related.

There are other similar systems such as the one from CatEye.

As far as games go... if you thought some of the MTBing games were lame and boring, there's even a roadbiking game that's supposedly coming out... /* snooze */
Nothing beats the original...

Oh man, I'd love to play Paperboy in the arcade. I had the PC version (wasn't there a sequel also?) a long time ago, and I downloaded it a couple months ago and used DOSBox to play it. Dated, but its pretty fun.
I'm gonna recommend what I almost always do on threads like this; Dave Mirra's Freestyle BMX:
http://jonbuder.com/files/games/davemirra.rar - You need WinRAR or similar to open it.

If you like park. But just like real life, I really love trails. Those games put me to sleep pretty quick, not a fast enough pace for me. RACE!!!

Paperboy ruled, I kicked ass on that game back in the day. I also loved super moto. 2d moto-x game from 81 I think. I dled an emulator a while back and played it for a few months.

I should learn how to make 3d games... maybe I can make a fairly simple game with OpenGL where you just ride around on a bike and jump and crap. I can get some people to make 3d models for it, but it's bound to be a hell of a lot of work.

How about one where you can design stunts and build a park? Call it North Shore Tycoon or SimFreeride or something. :D
