Mountain Biking - trek or kona

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
hey how is all?
i'm looking to buy a bike, and i like doing trials, but i want to ride xc too, so i looked a bit and found the kona scab, and the trek bruiser one, i think they cost about the same......i was just wondering if any of you had an opinion on these, or if you knew of another bike that might be suitable for doing trials and xc ( in know i'd need two bikes really....but i don't have the money for two.........i put most of my money on my uni...)
anyway, that is all

Hey what's up?
Yeah i know what u mean about the not having enough money for two bikes. I've got a KHS comp softail and i used to ride heaps of XC but in the past month or so i haven't seen a trail and i just been riding around on all the concrete we have down in Australia. I know what your thinking how can you do trials on a Softail well there's virtually no rear travel on my bike neway so. Yeah i put a 32 tooth bash ring on my bike and i left my shocks on, RST 281's they're crap and don't have much travel so they're good for trials - you'll be thankful when you land weird off that dropoff though which for me is like every second one.
So back to your problem well i must admit i have never seen the Trek you're talking about but i love that Scab and i would definitely buy it. It's a perfect bike for what you wanna do with it.
Have fun riding, catchya latr
hey thanks for the advice.
i really appriciate it, btw the trek is about the same as the scab, except it`s a lot thincker and made of aluminium.
but i think i`ll go for the trek, i think it`s geometrie is closer to a trials bike.......but it`s an urban assault bike as well..anyway.......i`ll try em both out before i buy one.
thanks again

Kona makes a real nice bike... there bikes are underrated... I say get a kona cause I have seen the market in the BMX world and I have expericanced some major diffrances in the bikes and I find that if your about 5'7 - 5'10 the kona is Just right... as for the Trek, Its a lil to long up front and to crowded in the middle
I would go with the Kona. they are known for strong frames(go to MTBR.com). They are also less common. I prefer products that aren't mainstream.
