Hello all. I have a quick question. Recently I have been experiencing a lot of knee pain after riding. The pain is on the medial (inner) part of my knee and is focused into one localized point. When I push on this point it hurts like you wouldn't believe. I know.......the simple solution would be to stop pushing on this point. Unfortunately, it goes a bit deeper than that. After prolonged periods of sitting, my knee gets quite stiff and it is painful to straighten it. I also have encountered some pain/stiffness behind my knee. I do not feel as though I have lost strength in my knee. I am also still able to run/bike with this ailment. I have heard so many different things from a tight IT band, to poor saddle position, to poor cleat position. Has anyone else experienced this type of pain? Does anyone have any advice on how to alleviate this problem? Thanks in advance for your responses.

i though it band was on the outside of your knee. It could very well be saddle height/position or cleat position. I would advise going to get fit to your bike by someone who knows how to do it or via a proffessional fitting. The fact that you have difficulty straightening your knee worries me. Is there any clicking or popping when you move your knee? Does it ever catch or momentarily lock when your moving it? Is there any swelling in the area? As no one here is doctor, or if they are, they can't actually examine your knee, i would make an appointment with a knee specialist soon. If there is any catching when you move your knee, combined with the symtoms you named, it could be a meniscal (sp?) tear from overuse. This would be bad and could require surgery. It may be a plica (sp?), which i had over the summer, and i had symptoms like yours, minus the stiffness and difficulty straightening.I took anti-inflammatories and changed my cleat position around and this was gone.It is mearly a fold in the tissue that gets inflamed. These are just two of many possibilities. Either way, go to a doctor before it gets worse. It sounds like you caught it early, so you should be able to fix it pretty easily. here is a site that may help you out
