Mountain Biking - Wheelssss

Hello all! Im am new to the bike forums and just have a quick question.. I did a search on this but didnt quite find what i was looking for.. I am 215 lbs and like to ride pretty rough.. but do some xc too.. I currently have Spinergy Rev X Rox on a Raleigh M50 Frame, but my rear wheel cracked in about 3 different places.. i was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the best wheel for me as a fair price????

I see a lot of things on Ebay but they mostly say cross country wheels.... i look the wheels im interested up on mtbr.com and no one really talks about riding hard terrain... do people on this forums trust ebay? lol - If anyone knows, i usually ride at Harthowrne park in Jersey

300 for a decent disc compatible XC wheelset.

One of the problems will be your weight. This is the same problem as a friend I have who weighs around 220lbs. The minimum quality hub that he can get away with is Shimano LX. anything lower and the freehub or the body gives up. He tried 32 spoke on an LX to a Mavic F519 rim, and no problem except he broke spokes. Next set were LX hub, 36 spokes to the same F519 rim. These have lasted 2 years now, and just need rebuilding, but by going to a specialist wheel builder, it is not worth rebuilding (he needs new rims) so will be getting new wheels instead. These wheels are for rim brakes and I do not think LX is for disc hub. Next grade up of XT hub is though, but then the next problem is the rim. You do want something a bit stronger than the standard XC rim, but the specs are changing at the moment so can't give you a number.

Mind you if you do want the ultimate, then one of the quality hubs like Chris King or Hope mated to a Downhill rim will outlast the rest of the bike but you will have to pay for it. Be a bit heavy aswell but there is no way you will be able to damage them in normal riding.

Suggestion is to contact a specialist wheel builder, or 3, and see what they suggest and what they can price at. Cost will not be as great as your LBS or most Online purchases, but the quality will be there right from the start. I am in the Uk but to see the choices look at http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/

for a rear wheel only? Try velocity Deep V rims laced with butted spokes (2.0/1.8.2.0). That would be the wheelsmith butted spoke, the Sapim race or DT competition with a DT onyx hub. That would come to less than 300 and make a very strong wheel. PWRDbyTRD is using deep V's right now and hes a big guy
