Road Cycling - Jamis Quest ???????

I have a chance to buy a Jamis Quest. I was wanting to know what people think of Jamis bikes. The problem I have is I can buy a 2001 that is new for $900 or order a 2002 for $1050. The bikes are both 105 but the 2002 comes with a tripple chain ring and a Kinesis Carbon-II fork. I need to decide pretty fast because the 2001 is the last one and when it is gone thats it for the 2001 models. Please let me know. Thanks

go for the 2001, unless you really want or need the triple. I'm looking at getting the quest also. It seems like a good deal on a good bike.

I just want to use the bike for some road rides. I would like to ride in the MS 150. I'm in Florida so there arent any hills. I'm not sure why I would need a tripple. Is there a clear reason for a tripple over a double?

I'm in Fla as well. No, there's no need for a triple. There are a few areas like in Pasco County (NE of Tampa) where it is legitimately hilly though even there a fit rider would have no need of a triple. The next time I ride there I'll use a triple but that's a commentary on me, not the general need for a triple here in the Sunshine state.

I bought a Univega Modo with a triple b/c my other project had gotten hung up and I wanted a bike to ride. Now that I have my other bikes completed the Univega sits on hooks in the garage. Why? The triple gearing doesn't work that well here. Keep your driveline simple and go double.

Jamis bikes are a little underrated. With all the "big names" out there they kind of get overlooked. I have always found the Jamis makes a real good quality rig. Spec'd well and built to last a while. The 2001 Quest is a good rig. The fork absorbs vibration better than cro-mo and lightens the bike some. I am confident you will like it. Oh and yes I am a Jamis dealer.

I just Bought my 2002 Jamis Quest and so far It's been really great. I only have about 200 miles on it so I'm still breaking it in. I live in North Atlanta so I went with the 2002 model because of the triple, we do have some good hills here. I also wanted the Carbon Fork since the roads here are pretty bad here and I wanted as much comfort as possible when I do long rides.

If I were you I would snatch up the 01 since you won't need the triple, That's a sweet price, they want $999 here in atlanta for that model.

Thanks for the replay. I went by today and worked on him a little more on the price. He really wants to move that bike. In the paper work I have it shows the bike has a 650 front and a 700 rear. The 2001 I looked at didnt have that. Does your new bike have 2 different size wheels?

I'm looking at my wheels and the tires are both 700 x23C. Now I'm a little new to the Road bike equipment Specs, so I don't know if the front rim could be a 650 but with a 700 tire but I don't think so. Hope this helps

The 650 on the front would be only for a very small frame, like smaller than a 47. It's not uncommon and is done to be able to shorten the top tube proportionately while still providing some toe clearance.

If this size bike is right for you and the dealer is having trouble moving it, it could be a great bargain. The downside is having to maintain two different size wheel/tire/tube sets, and the relative scarcity of 650c tires.

I guess I wasnt real clear. The bike at the bike shop has 700's on the front and rear. For some reason the Jamis book and web site shows it as 700 and 650. I didnt understand why. Thats why I had asked what was on his bike. Thanks for the replies.
