Are there track nuts that are stainless and not chromed? Who makes them and where to get them from?

Thanks Dolface. I would have google'd, however, I was looking for a bit of opinion from some experienced folks.

Of course I could have said that here and been clear, but that would make sense. And why would I start doing that?

A light coat of grease serves as protection from moisture, or Vaseline.

I just put tape around my nuts to keep them safe from all of the bad elements out there.

For the hex-headed bolts, I use a dab of clear Tectyl on a cotton stick every now and then, very efficient. I would have used the stuff on track nuts too if I had a problem with rust.

Boating stores like West Marine, aircraft supply places, locally here I just go to Olander co. for any interesting hardware I need, they're good to have around whene ya need 100 or so #1-56 allen head stainless screws for microwave stuff.... or really tiny bikes I guess!

You could always rub yer nuts with some Nevr-Dull Magic Wadding Polish.

(notice how it was two mods in seagull mode who
were having difficulty holding back on this one?)

My nuts are rusty too. That is, the nuts on my IRO hubs.

They were fine until I got into some nasty salty roads this winter. Once the nuts got the salty slush on them, they rusted in just a few days. Too bad. That's my only complaint about the IRO hubs.

Anyone have similar experiences with their IRO hubs?

Yes, yes, i do, my iro nuts are rusted too, but just the front set. I ride by the ocean everyday, so it could be that.

it's amazing, the more you use your nuts, the more they get rusty. and here i thought it was the other way around.

i hardly ever touch my front nuts, but my rear nuts i play with more regularly. Not just for screwing around but to actually pull something off, like a wheel.

Do you use a tug with your rear nuts? I've heard that people have good things to say about getting their nuts tugged.

There are some other great places with great names where you can pick up specialty pieces. Western Screw in berkeley, ca has EVERYTHING and is always willing to sell 1 or 2 pieces at a time...no need to get a whole case.

The nuts on my IRO hubs have rusted a little, due to salted winter roads. I just keep a light coating of grease on them at all times, and it seems to have stopped any progression.

Seriously folks...We have plenty of salt on the roads in the winter, and the nuts for my Miche Hubs I had been riding for the last few years don't have a spec of rust on them. They are $4 per nut (Canadian Dollars). I never thought much about the quality of them, but after reading all of these posts on your IRO nuts, I am thinking that my nuts are a little nicer than yours. Perhaps it is because I pay attention to my nuts regularly and make sure they are always clean and shiny after each ride...or maybe its genetics.
