General Cycling Discussion - I insist, bring your bike in to the restaurant.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My dad owns and manages two Subway restaurants. (Are these popular in the USA by the way?)

Anyways, he told me a couple of days ago a poor guy got his new $6000 road bike stolen as he parked it outside for just a few minutes. And to make it worse he had a $2000 loan from a friend to buy that bike and he had a race in just two weeks.

The next day the guy was posting color flyers everywhere.

Poor guy. I told my dad he should let everyone bring in their bike. He said he has no problem with that at all. He wouldn't protest if anyone brought in their bike and they usually do it. That guy chose not to bring it in.

He said just a few days ago another road biker parked his bike out (without a lock) to dine in. The bike was outside the window right beside his table. My dad went to him and asked him: "Is your bike expensive?"

He said "yes, it's very expensive actually." My dad then said: "Then you must go bring it right now".

Yes, thanks to Jared - a guy who lost like 150 lbs, Subway is popular here in the US. I personally like Cousins better for subs---it's the bread.
But kudos to your dad for letting folks bring in their bikes. Too bad that guy lost out on his 6000 buck bike! WOW! Does insurance cover something like that??????

I have been kicked out of Carl's Jr, and KFC for brining my bike inside (no racks outside, odd hours, not busy, both situations).

I have never had a problem an Subway, I hit subway atleast once a week on my bike. 6" club on honey oat, 12oz strawberry smoothie, *drool*.

I feel bad for the guy, a stolen bike always hurts, $6, or $6000.

Wow - I just love to hear stories like that! (not the bike being stolen, but Dad allowing scoots in his place!) Other than motorists who attempt to run me over, getting my scoot stolen is a primary reason I hesitate to ride to many destinations.

Two BIG thumbs up to your padre!!!! :D :D

Many bravos to your dad, Amir. Too many businesses down here in 'Murrica treat bikes as if they bore plagues. I regularly bring mine into a snooty rich-hippie grocery store in my town and feign deafness when asked to park outside--hey, it's got a smaller footprint than a shopping cart.

Man, pardon me while I wipe a tear from my eye. This post has everything -

love - boy has bike, boy loves bike
greed / criminal activity - bike theft
sorrow - boy loves bike, boy loses bike
drama / suspense - will another bicycle be stolen
compassion - The kindhearted gesture by Amir's father
commercialism - Plugs for Subway
financial ruin - the loan payments on nothing
cliffhanger ending - is the bike recovered

Have the movie rights been bought? Who will play Amir's father?

Seriously though, that's pretty cool of your dad!

Many places that I bring my bike into, 7-11, and stores like that tell me to get out and I just feel terrible for the guy that lost his 6,000 dollar bike, if some son of a ***** tried to steal my bike, and I caught him, his ass is all that would be left of him.

my MTB is worth about $1500 CDN. When i went to a restaurant i left it outside. i saw someone trying to steal it. i literally ran full speed thru the restaurant outside and just as he was getting on the seat i grabbed him by the legs and threw him using my football skills right into the glas of the next door building. then i called the police, they arrested him, thank you witnesses, and he paid for the glass repair. then the owner fo the restaurant said u can bring urr bike in.

It's a shame to read about theses bike thief stories, but that's why everyone should own a beater bike. I never take my litespeed anywhere where it's not with me 100% of the time we're out together. If my beater bike gets stolen the worst part is having to walk home or calling for a ride. Please folks let these be lessons learned.
