I'm having trouble finding comfortable, SPD-R compatible road shoes.

First I tried Diadora Cosmos (Corsos?), something like that. Wrong size and too narrow anyway.

Next I tried Nike Stelvios (?). These names. I get them confused. Again, too narrow.

Now I'm trying a pair of Carnac Legends. More expensive. Still hurt, but not as bad. Also, they're leather and might break in. They are reputedly wider than normal.

Thinking of trying the Lake CX 201 Extreme in Wide width, but wonder if they won't be too wide. I wear a size 12C (Euro 47) street shoe.

The SIDI Mega-mesh are also supposed to be for wider feet but have synthetic leather uppers which I fear will be too hot here in Mississippi.

Another choice is to stay with my Shimano SPD touring shoes that are comfortable and easier to walk around in when I get off the bike.

I just bought a Fuji Roubaix-Pro racing bike, though, and would like to use some real road shoes if possible. Any suggestions?

Shimano and AXO both make shoes that should work for you. I to have a problem finding shoes wide enough. The Shoes I currently use are AXO pursuit. They are extreamly ventilated and fit great.
Hope you find shoes that work.

With the sox on that you plan to wear trace you feet. You know stand on a piece of paper and run a pencil around as close to the sock as possible. Send the paper to Shmano or who you like and get what they reccomend.

Thank you for suggestions, one and all.

What model Shimanos are you wearing, RiphRaph?

Before I read your replies, I ordered a pair of SIDI Genius Mega-Mesh road shoes from Bike Nashbar. Their tech rep said they were 4mm wider than normal. 2mm made a difference on my handlebar width, so I hope 4mm will do the trick for my shoes.

I'll look into the Shimanos and Axos.

I'll keep you posted.

I too have a wide foot. I tried Carnac, Nike, Shimano, Sidi and Northwave shoes. The Northwave Evolution offered the best overall fit, but i couldnt stand to pay the price for them ($230). The Sidi Titan 2's offered the next best fit, within budget too ($145). I ended up purchasing the Sidi's. I now have a few hundred miles on the shoes, I cant say anything bad about the shoes, they fit my foot perfectly.

I can’t really say much about the other shoes, Carnac's where out of budget, and too flashy (silver) for me. The Nike shoes had a bad heal cup, and cut into my foot. The Shimano shoes all felt cheap, and somewhat narrow.

The Carnacs I'm trying are the Legend model

They are quite handsome without being flashy--almost entirely black with silver mesh and some white reflective bits. A couple of yellow accents.

They are fairly expensive at over $200 with shipping and everything.

They fit pretty well. I'll look at the Northwaves, too.

You might find it worthwhile. I have a tad wider foot than regular. I ordered the Northwave Team Carbon model about six weeks ago as a back-ordered item. The site recommended ordering a half size larger, as they run small. I ordered two pair with the intent of returning one of lesser fit. The smaller size (which matched my regular shoe size) arrived first last week, fit perfectly, and I cancelled the other pair. So far, me (and my feet) love 'em....and the price was more than reasonable.

I just bought a pair of Lake CX 201's in the wide size. I have had trouble with other shoes being too narrow and pinching my feet. After a couple of hours my feet were killing me. The wide Lakes fit great and are very comfortable. By the way, I wear 10.5 E's (or 44-44.5).

Daniel,

The Nashbar rep told me the SIDI Genius Mega-mesh was wider than the Lake CX 201 wide model. I found that hard to believe, but what do I know?

If the SIDI's don't work, I may try the Lakes.

I wear a C-width street shoe, not an E, so I worried the Lakes might be TOO wide.
