What's the racing sense like in and around Illinois. I'm moving from Ireland to Chicago soon and would like as much info on the racing sense in the area. Are there races every weekend within a 100 radius. Any info on the type of races, distances etc etc.
All info is very welcome. Also, any good racing clubs/teams in the area would be great.

Hi Dublin... Welcome to the land of the Yanks!

I'm in Wisconsin, a neighbor to Illinois. We have a sort of rivalry thing going :)
Anyhow... I know there's lots of biking in Illinois/Iowa area. And here in Wisconsin too. Pretty flat with some rolling hills at best in the area.
Chicago along the lakeshore is great for a ride!

you are in luck, sir!

go to www.4bridgesofelgin.com for info on an international bicycle race on july 6th, complete with citizen and USCF racing. also look up the Northbrook Velodrome, which hosts races.

stop in to www.highergearchicago.com - home of the best LBS in the country! great rides, which my schedule could accomodate.

depending on which part of chicago you live in there are options.... let me know here is you need more info.

Hi Guys,

thanx for those web sites and in particular the 2cc site. Can I ask for more details on clubs in the area. I'll be living in the Des Plaines area. We're not quite sure where we'll settle but it will be that kinda area.

Well my move from Ireland to the US will be quite soon, I'm moving to work for Allstate, already work for them so I'm looking forward to a new live out there in the Windy City.

I'm a 2nd Cat over here but I'd expect that to be a 3rd over there. We only have 3 Cats over here, not 5 like you guys. How hard are the races. There seems to be a lot of Crits, what about road races are they hilly, flat, fast, long? At the moment I race anything from midweek 30 miles to a weekend race of 60-80 miles some times 95 with the 1st Cat big boys.
