Folks,

I'm seeking advice re buying a hybrid bike.

There are forums for road bikes, mountain bikes, recumbants, as well as general cycling, etc, but nada for hybrids. Which forum should I post to? Perhaps both road & mountain, since hybrids are target both those worlds? Or in general cycling? Is crossposting to 2 forums OK here? It's my 1st day here, so I'm not up on customs.

TIA.

No crossposting, please.

If you're wanting to use that hybrid for road riding, go to the Road Cycling forum. If you plan to hit the dirt trails more, then head over to the Mtb forum. If you're not sure, go to the General Cycling Discussion forum.

Hybrids are really road bikes that can be used on a hardpack fire trail or rails to trails type stuff. They won't do at all on real singletrack or anything technical. So they belong IMO in the road cycling catagory. I can't remember much ever being discussed about Hybrids in the Mountain Biking Forum. The first Hybrids were MTB geared and were almost useless on the road. Now most are geared more towards the road as far as gearing goes. There there is the current rash of flat bar bikes???

Thx much for the advice. I was leaning towards road, but wanted to make sure. I'll start w/road & then move to genl cycling if that fails. Will also scan rec/family, which I hadn't considered at all, but was also suggested.

Thx again for your help.
