Road Cycling - weight : Fuji Roubaix Pro vs. Marseilles

Does anyone know the weight difference between a Fuju Roubaix Pro (listed on Fuji's website at 19.7 lbs with Shimano 105 group) and the new Fuji Marseilles? The Marseilles is the same bike except it has the Ultegra group and a different fork, I think.

I'm curious about this because I rode them both and couldn't discern much of a difference in weight. Is the weight difference, if any, attributable to the lighter Ultegra group?

I can't answer your question. I didn't know the Marseilles existed until after I bought my Roubaix-Pro.

The dealer I bought it from told me the frame of my bike was better than the components and could be (deserved to be?) upgraded someday.

Then I found out there was a Roubaix triple that weighed a pound lighter than the Pro. Seems like I always discover these things AFTER the purchase.

Anyway, I was glad I got the pro because I like its Reynolds 853 frame.

Someday, if I upgrade it, I might turn it into a triple because that's what I'm used to. If I did, I'd probably buy Ultegra components, presuming there's a triple crankset in that group.

I still haven't answered your question. I like the Roubaix-Pro. I'm sure the Marseilles would be cool, too. Are you seriously considering buying one or the other?

I also have a Roubaix Pro and like it pretty well. It's my first road bike in a long time and quite an improvment over the last road bike I owned. I think the lighter Roubaix with a triple is the aluminum model. I think the steel Pro probably rides better. Anyhow, I've got my eye on a Seven Axiom. Maybe if I win the lottery.....

Thanks for the responses. I test rode both the Marseille and the Roubaix Pro over the weekend and bought the Roubaix Pro! I really like the Shimano 105 group -- have had it in the past -- and the extra 300 for Ultegra wasn't worth it to me. Everything I've learned about the Marseille suggests that it's the exact same bike as the Roubaix pro except for Ultegra. Also, the Marseille is Red/white (mostly white) and not nearly as sharp-looking IMO as the electric blue/platinum Roubaix Pro.

Love the Roubaix Pro. That's all I can say. Great deal, great bike.

Condor, re: your LBS stating that the Roubaix Pro frame was better than the 105 components, I have to laugh. 105 is tried-and-true, hi-value, nice group. What a silly thing to say. Sometimes I wonder about the obsession with premium component groups. As if Shimano 105 is some kind of bargain basement group! Not so. It's quite nice and will serve you well for quite a long time.

In terms of the double versus triple deal, I wanted the stock double so I'm very happy.

One of you mentioned the lighter Roubaix. Yes, it's lighter but it's also Fuji's composite Aluminum X-fusion deal, so if you're OK with that, go for it. I wanted Reynolds 853.

And, if you're really a weight-a-holic, take a look at the Fuji Team bike, which is 15lbs. Not my cup of tea, again, but just FYI.
