Bicycle Mechanics - highest gear trubbles

I can't get into my highest gear (smallest rear cog) unless I first shift from the big to the little (front) ring then back again. This has become as annoying as a little stinging fly buzzing around my ears and face and stinging, stinging, biting, buzzing all over. With cold, itchy, pointy things everywhere too. Any advice?

You need to adjust the two screws on the rear derailer. I cant remember which screw is the one you'll need to fiddle with, if you have your books that came with your bike that will tell you....i'm sure someone here will know also.
But i have had LBS guys tell me that sometimes you simply cannot get it to go into the fastest gear, or the slowest for that matter. I have found i've always been able to with a bit of fine tuning. If you cant get it with just the rear derailer screws, you may need to adjust the front derailer just a tad.

While you're back there, make sure the DR hanger is straight, a slight bend can cause this as well.

this prob could be several things
1 weak spring on rear derailer (this is common with new crapy components especially if the bike has been stored with the derailer in a big cog)
2 hi limit screw needs to be backed out ver slightly
3 cables and housing could be dry
4 hanger could be bent

I vote for #2 above. H screw.
