After working out I feel very tired. Besides the obvious there must be other reasons why I feel so tired? I don't push myself to extremes. I go at a good pace. My workout consists of walking (daily), strength training 3-4 x's a week, and cycling. So as you can see I'm not over doing it. Most people I know after working out have nothing but energy. The "exhausted" feeling sometimes even lags into the following day with me which sometimes discourages me even to workout. Help!......

Is it my diet? Am I lacking certain vitamins? Maybe I'm not getting enough sleep? I'm trying to figure out why....anyone else feel like this? Thanks.... :)

How much sleep do you get? Have you thought about increasing your sleep time to see if that's the problem?

Sounds like early signs of overtraining, but diet or lack of proper sleep could be it too. Only one way to tell:

Adjust sleep as Koffee recommended, if that doesn't help, take an extra day off from training and see where your at. If your still fatigued, see a doctor (it could be low iron, /shrug)

yeah sounds like exhaustion from either overtraining or lack of sleep. Have you ever been diagnosed as being anemic?

when do you exercise? i get pretty tired after working out too, but since i ride at night after work it just helps me to sleep well over night. i've tried dozens of times to ride in the morning, but i just am too worn out at work. i find i really do best at night where i have time to chill out and do nothing afterward except eat, watch TV and go to sleep. maybe there is a better time of the day for you to work out?

When's the last time you went for a full physical? I'd get a full blood and urine work-up done just to make sure the gears, wheels, gizmos and doo-ma-hickeys are all working well inside first!!!!!

Thanks for the responses....I think I will work on the sleep habit first...it's easier said than done....I usually get around 6 hrs...I think the 'time' I go to bed @ night needs to perhaps change also.
I highly doubt it's due to over-training...I work out around mid-day...I just had my physical and all the numbers were good...maybe my body is just trying to get used to physical activity once again.

Aim for 7- 9 hours of sleep per night for the next month and see how you feel.

I don't think it's overtraining. I've seen overtraining, and what you described ain't it.

Rely in what Koffee offers. Also, consider checking your resting heart rate each morning. Get a good idea as to what your "normal" rate is, and then when you have significant increases on some days you will know that something is up!

Overtraining makes you feel tired and wired, like you're tired, but too wired to sleep, but then once you make yourself go to bed you do....

If you are doing some heavy lifts in your gym workouts, heavy climbing on the bike, you get a deep, "bone tired" feeling, that might be what you have. Just get more sleep!

I have a question about getting extra sleep. I get on average 7 hours a night. Sometimes if I'm doing a lot of cycling I feel that this isn't enough, but if I get to sleep earlier at night, I also seem to wake earlier in the morning, about 7 hours later. Does this mean my body doesn't need the extra sleep, even though I still feel tired the next morning?
