After a year covering Vancouver, SF, Portland, NYC, Edmonton, Montreal, London, and Berlin; riding, racing, working, riding home after midnite drunk in my cowboy boots, someone explain the irony of being doored your first day back home, with a 'open door carefully' sign in your wheel!
did i mention it was the police that doored me on a section of melbourne that ive worn a groove in, a passing cab then runs over my foot, inches away from a broken ankle. Broken collarbone all the same.
bike at friends. havent seen it since the accident.
great to be back!
Still hoping to make cmwc13, but as for pippin' Alfred this time, unlikely.
now i can finally take you in a race. yes! you better come to cmwc.
get well soon.

Gotta love the po po. Is that a broken clavicle?

Thanks for concurring, Doctor ;)
No foot xrays. But broken sidi buckle and massive bruising.

Did the cop take the blame? I'm always interested in dooring incidents.
btw, mrwhite, that xray shows your name in the top right. Might wanna remove it.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Haven't been doored (badly enough to break anything) yet, but I can see how bad it can be from the painful close calls and minor scrapes I've had. Ironic to no end, I'd say. Maybe that card was like a jinx.
I don't know the laws down in Vic., but it's probably not legally the cop's fault. "You should exercise due caution when passing parked cars..." they tend to say here.
But great site, that Fyxomitosis.

The police report has been sent to the ethical standards committee, without my knowledge.
Apparently someone in the police force wasn't happy with it - from what i understand the report blames ME! Obviously wrong as it is a drivers responsibility to take caution opening a door into traffic.
I'll update you as I know more.
charlesw - im a bit vague on policies here, but is using your name illegal? We've all got one. Some even two or more! Admittedly mines pretty boring - try finding out anything from an istitution with a name like that! impossible!

HA! 2MR just read the US laws.
Um, no. I think youll find, its ALWAYS the door openers fault. Ive been a driver alighting my car and had it almost taken clean off by a passing car. My fault.
IMBW... things are crazy in (god bless) America.

Nah, charles was simply looking out for your privacy if you didn't want your real live actual name on the internets.
Meanwhile, liability in a dooring is determined on a state or local level here. In a bizarre twist, the motorist doesn't have a legal obligation to not door anyone but insurance code is written such that they do take the insurance liability. "It's not illegal but you're at fault." Que?
We have a bill that recently passed its hearing and has moved on to Ways & Means that, among several other cycling related things, stipulates that it is illegal to open a door into oncoming traffic.
Heal quickly and get back on that bike!

Im willing to take magic potions at this stage.
The silent ride is this wednesday nite here - itll be dark, it is at 6pm now :(
bostontrevor Are you coining a 'bushism' using the word internets? ;) Ta. Nothing to hide here, reference to Reservoir Dogs is purely coincidental.
"internets" is a legit word, there is the internet and internet2, thus, internets
internets may be a plural of internet, and i'm on i2 and i never call the interwebs internets.
i do pluralize intranet and extranet, as do most people in IT. when people talk about the wider scope of things, they usually say "internet cloud".
legitimate word or no, i smell apolo-jizm.

I remember watching the election debates, and listening to Bush's english and cringing. It was a reference to that, them, they, he.
We speak the 'Queens' english over here... ;)
i smell apolo-jizm.
sorry, cant find a safe-for-work "jizm" picture
