Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Speaking of BMX...

How many of you guys are BMX'ers? (what do you ride?)

I'm asking, just out of curiousity, and because I am deathly afraid of the BMX forum.

I'm thinking about getting back into it again. Been out for a few ten years or so...

Can't decide on 20" or 24".

-easier to throw around a 20
but
-can do some mountain stuff with 24

Hmm! Thoughts?

a couple of years ago i picked up a haro backtrail pro (nyquist's sig. model) by way of ebay. a real brute, weighing in at close to 32 lbs. it was virtually new, so for $300, it was a justified purchase. i've ridden it all of maybe 2 times. it's just nice to have one in the collection.

Haro's got some good stuff. Mmm, I wouldn't mind being a proud owner of an M7. :)

Do you have any pics of yours? American or Euro BB, do you know?

Y'know, a pink sharpie can change that "HUTCH" to "BUTCH".

I know I'd get a kick out of a pink bike with a massive 'BUTCH' logo.

I rode this Schwinn Predator for many years. Dirt jumping, street, trails, whatever.

I just sold it not too long ago, though. I hadn't rode it in a while, so I decided it was time for it to go to a new home.

After seeing the Corey R video, it makes me think blissfully back 20 years when I had a Hutch, Redline, and eventually a Haro Freestyler, the first ones ever made with the twin top tube you could stand on. <sigh>

I thinking about getting a Specialized HardRock just to throw around.

I still ride my Kink Revision B 20". Haven't ridden much since I joined the Army (out now) so I need to re-learn a bunch of stuff I used to know. I just recently bought a fixed gear (IRO Mark V) so I probably wont be concentrating on BMX much now.
Go with the 20" for sure, stay away from the 24" cruiser (unless you want to race it).

around the same time i bought the haro, there was a gal on ebay selling kink freebird frames for something like $150. apparently she was dating ryan sher (or something to that effect) and he owed her a bit money, so to compensate (i guess he couldn't afford to pay her in cash?) he gave her a few frames to sell. in retrospect, i suppose i ought to have purchased one.

I've been thinking about setting my BMX fixie chopper up with a somewhat regular seatpost and stem/handlebars so that I could try doing some tricks on it. Its a pretty wicked vintage frame and I've got it set up pretty pimp so far

i ride BMX. I have a Terrible One Barcode. one of the first 300 or so made. i ride mostly street. american bottom bracket.

i just purchased a Kink Jim Cielencki frame, euro bottom bracket, limited edition color (translucent purple), with a brand new 14mm axle rear hub ($50 value), cane creek bottom headset cup, and something else all for $299. the frame alone is usually about $320, and the limited edition color (only like, 50 made) was $400 originally. so i feel like i got a pretty great deal. i put $50 down on it last weekend. i can't wait.

i'm not too juiced on the euro bb, but...it was an insane deal on a frame that i'll love and ride even more than the T-1...and it's lighter by about 2lbs.

I still have my old S&M Challenger, but I haven't ridden that thing in like 6 years. I tried getting on it recently and was pulling off some monster j-hops, but I don't think I could hit the trails just yet. It was really weird to be standing up all the time and the whole freewheel thing kind of creeped me out. The thing has some pretty interesting carbon hubs (nuke-proof?) I used it for racing and trails so weight was a bit of a concern but not too much. I have owned about 12 different bmx frames throughout the years. . . hmm do any of you guys remember the rocket I think it was made by MCS hahah I broke one of those in like 2 months. I was always cracking my aluminum frames but it was ok because I would always get a new one for free like a week later.

i remember nuke proofs! those were the SHAZZZZ.

i had some TNT derringer hubs laced to araya RB-17s. i tore the wheels apart and am currently using the hubs on my 27" bar bike. they're still as smooth as the day i got 'em. i also put some of the dan's comp. competition axles in them with 24TPI primo jewel nuts. my bar bike rules.

i do it all bmx style. race, flatland, street, park, dirt. race bike: pro concept (a gary turner, mike devitt made frame) flat: usa made hutch trickstar. other: s&m dirtbike. cruiser that can do it all: badd

i actually built up a fixie originally to get a little bit faster on the bmx track. it works.

I have been known to ride a little flat and street. But man do I need to update my frame, I am still riding a 96 Mongoose Dennis McCoy Pro frame and fork. I think I want a standard Tao or to go old school again and find a Hoffman Big Daddy. If I was just doing street I'd probaly get a T-1 frame, one of my friends rides for them and his signature frame is sweet.
