Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - cannondale track bike

Anybody know anything about this bike. You have to use the search function on Cannondale's web site to find it. What does it cost? Is the fork drilled to accomodate a brake? Would it make a good fixie for the street? Is it even real?

I have a cannondale track bike that looks a bit like the one I found on the webpage. Its older. Different fork, so I don't know. And... I love it.

It's pretty hot. Very light. Very responsive. The one's I've seen are drilled for a front brake. Could make a good fix for the street, depends on what you need really. Just make sure you lock that sucka up tight.

mine is at the bike shop waiting for me to pick it up, so i can't say how it rides on the street. i have used the major taylors that team puma has (but mostly on the track), and they are good bikes. very responsive, very light.

oh yeah, you can only get frame and fork now. they don't distribute the complete bike anymore.

armia . . . is cannondale ever going to sell the track bike with ya'lls team design . . . not that I'll ever have the $$ to buy one, just wondering

i dont think cannondale has a right or wants to sell that design..

is this just the regular old cannondale track frames or are they coming out with new ones? armia - what year is that? and.. wow, 14lbs?

Mine is 16 lbs, rides nice on the street.

I have the Major Taylor, but it came as a full bike, almost all D/A except for the Ultegra BB. It's huge fun to ride, very light & responsive etc., like everyone said. My one complaint would be that it is exceedingly ugly. Like hard to look at. If you can get over that, you'll love it.

THAT is the bike armia has, but his has a cooler paint job and a way cooler seatpost clamp bolt (inside joke). and don't exagerrate, armia, it weighs 14.1 lbs, right?

it is a 2004, but it is not the bike jrowedc linked to (better rims, for one thing).

when i ordered mine, it was with the intention of painting it as soon as i got it. but i found out that cannondale voids the warranty if you mess with the paint job at all. so i am stuck with that ugly skin. funny thing is that because that i am stuck with that ugliness, i am going to use that bike on the streets and not wrap it. i'll just let nature take it's course in degrading the paint job and making it look better to me. so, in a way, i'll be happier with the bike through more use.

armia's bike looks cool because they ordered like ten and had cannnondale paint them.

the old ones are traditional track geometry (75 deg. HT/ST), very stiff, and fast as hell. the newer major taylors are closer to their road geometry and not quite as good IMO.

if you want it new, you can get your local authorized dealer to order it for you. it is not in the catalogue, so they'll have to just call and ask about it.

YEAH. . . wtf. . . I wanted that color (again, I'm talking like I have the money) but the first cannondale track bike I wanted, well, the first track bike I guess, was a coupla years ago when they first intorduced their frame as the Major Taylor frame. . . they had another bike JUST LIKE IT except they called it "messenger"; it was matte black with glosssed black letter outlined in white. . . ooooh, so stealth. I've NEVER seen that bike in person and can only imagine it's a friggin' pretty pain job. . . like their bad boy, 'cept without the gears

Interestingly mine has Mavic cxp23s and a Ritchey headset, like what was on the previous year's Cannondale Track. I don't know why.

14.1 lbs seems a bit optimistic. Mine weighed 15.4 on the lbs's digital scale with Look pedals (since removed) and a crap fizik saddle. With the steel Nitto drops and MKS pedals, it probably weighs 17 these days.

Too bad to hear that about the paint, because I was actually thinking of having mine repainted. As ugly as the bike is, though, I think you'll take some pleasure in the shininess of it all. I know I do. I try to pretend that I've never seen my other track bike, and then I find I love the way my major taylor looks.

armia's bike has a few upgrades that really make it 14.1 lbs sans pedals. and he uses steel eggbeaters, which are pretty light.

OK so I will be picking up a early 90's c'dale track tomorrow and I want a brake. Since the original fork does not come drilled what are my options? on a track bike? Will it mess up the geo and feel of the bike severely? If this is not a safe option what else would you suggest? I don't really want to drop more than $100 on this fork either if possible.

Not a bad idea. It will make you bike feel more like a road bike but since you won't be riding it with the original fork, you won't notice the difference.
