Which is better? Does a carbon fiber seat post really do any good? I always wondered as I have been a cyclist for 15 years and have owned seven differnent bikes and have never tried one. Any opinions would be apprecaited.

Depends on the stoker; depends on the tandem. Alu tandem she may need suspension. Steel, ti or carbon fiber frameshe could get away without. However, her butt will dictate. Offroad riding she may prefer suspension; on-road, c/f may do the trick.
Having said that, stoker Kay, has never used any type of suspension seatpost on our personal tandems. That's in 30+ years of stoking.
Although we have tested/ridden over 30 brands/models throughout the years; a few had suspension seatpost, and a few had the Allsop Softride beam. She preferred the beemer over any suspension seatpost.
Again, your stoker will let you know if you made the right choice!
