Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I rode a lot while in college and again during the 1970's. However in the mid 1980's a wretched Indian casino was built about two miles N of my house in a very rural area (as usual). The traffic drove me off the road. However a year or so ago I bucked up my courage and went on the road again on my 30 year old Schwinn. It was fine - especailly after I get past the casino - all the traffic is from the south; empty roads to the north. (This is in Capay Valley, for those familiar with N. California.)
I love it. I ride on weekends, usually 50-60 miles, occasionally a century. Starting to ride again has been the best thing I've done in years. I love my old Schwinn Super Le Tour; indeed I haven't seen anything better yet. Lighter yes, but not better. This is really a great sport.

I rode to RH Phillips Winery Saturday, up around you. Beautiful area! Yes, I would never willingly ride on 16. Just had to cross it, which was enough for me. It was a club ride, starting in Davis, up to Woodland, over past Zamora into the Dun****n Hills and the winery, then back through Esparto, back to Davis. 65 miles, round trip. The first Saturday of every month, RH has a wine and food pairing for $10. For May it was local cheeses, thin slices of baguette and a bit of chutney. And wine tasting. They post the menu for the Saturday on their website, if you want to check it out.

Yes, there are a lot of good rides around Davis, Woodland, Winters, and Esparto. Hiway 16 north of the casino is actually very nice. I sometimes go north on 16 to hiway 20, then NE to Williams and back on the local roads thru the Dun****n Hills to Capay. Then it gets hairy.
