The best place to buy a bike, bike components and accessories is the bike shop in your own neighborhood. But, sometimes, an LBS does not stock what you need, or does not want to bother with a "small" special order. That creates the need for mail order operations such as Nashbar and Performance.
But, I've noticed that most mail order places are orientated to "high mark-up" items. A great selection of Dura Ace stuff, but if you are looking for moderately priced components...
In March, "Cycling Plus" rated Shimano Taigra brake calipers as their "favorites", ranking the Tiagra calipers higher than Dura Ace and any of Campy brake calipers. But, Nashbar and Performance did not list the Tiagra calipers in their catalogs. Then, looking for bike locks, the same story. The $100 locks are easy to find mail order, but not the $25 locks.
While searching for who DOES sell Taigra calipers, I came across the website for Sunrise Cyclery. The Dura Ace calipers are $230 a pair, free shipping. The top rated Taigra calipers are just $50, free shipping. So, customers can save $180 by getting the Tiagra brake calipers
And, the top rated OnGuard Bulldog Mini U-lock, unavailable at most places, is "on sale" for $25, with free shipping. The widest selection of high quality bike locks I have seen anywhere.
So, Sunrise is an alternative to the guys who refuse to stock high quality, moderately priced bike components and accessories.
Has anyone any good (or bad) experences with Sunrise Cyclery to report to the Forum?
