Yeah, riding a real bike on the real road beats anything in the gym.

Primevci, welcome to the biking world. There is nothing better than riding to get the unexercised moving. Like you I needed exercise and to lose weight. I occasionally hit the gym (and I know its still important), but I don't do it as consistently as my bike commute. After the first few rides when you work out all the adjustments and kinks riding is such an enjoyable way to exercise.

Welcome to the new world. There is no turning back now.

And yes, soon you will have a butt of iron.

If you aren't wearing cycling shorts, make it a priority (they're padded). Even with the shorts, it still takes some time.

In my experience, lycra shorts aren't really necessary for comfort unless you're spending several hours at a time. I commute in boxer briefs and basketball shorts. Works fine, and perfectly comfortable for at least 10 miles at a time, probably more.

You're going to regret that at mile 60 into a ride, if not sooner. It's probably different for all of us I guess. I used to never need any special shorts or anything, now I can't really even do 100k without some ... issues.

My husband tells me that after riding a while, your butt muscles will become stronger and give you more support, making it a more comfortable ride. So just keep on cyclin'!
