General Cycling Discussion - Year-Old Road Rash?

Has anyone else ended up with what seems to be permanent hematoma after an encounter with the asphalt? I wiped out a year ago and this thing on my thigh hasn't gone away. Doesn't hurt at all, but looks lumpy, gross and still a little purple. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of this puppy?

So, a question then, if you can see it in the skin wouldn't that seem to indicate it is isolated from the ciculatory system? I thought the fatal clots are the ones in the veins that are indicated by pain, tenderness, swelling etc...

nah that happend to my freinds dad he thought he jsut gave himself a brusie and put it off for a week then went to the doctor and found out it was a clot and was about a day away from loosing his leg he still has real tenderness and really senstive foot 2 years later it might jsut be a brusie but i would go to the docotor... if anythign youll find out its jsut a brusie and youll be ok...

You didn't clean the abrasion properly prior to the scab forming. That is why the first thing to make sure of is that all the aspalt and other debris has been cleaned before any dressing is applied. Think of it as an abstract tattoo. It will however fade a bit eventually.

If it's a scar, consider getting that Mederma (sp?) stuff. I heard it's fantastic with getting rid of scars.

This is the worst advice I've read in a long time.

It may be nothing, but if what you describe has lasted a year something is wrong. Let the Doc decide what it is, and the option for the next step is up to you.

Go to the Doc. Be sure to answer him honestly if you have a family history of things like diabetes.

Right, go to the doctor, bla bla bla, etc. . . . but first, answer the real burning yet amazingly un-asked question: do you shave (in the uh . . . afflicted area)?!

Wow thats an awfully nonchalant response to what could evidently be a serious, perhaps even life-threatening situation. Sure it could be some freaky mutant scab attack but if its a blood clot or whatever do you really want to be the one responsible for convincing this dude to skip out on a doctor's visit that could save his life?
