Touring - new york to philly revisited?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. hey all
i'm wanting to do a newyork -- philly (preferably brooklyn to philly) bike ride sometime this month. i'm looking for some suggestions on the route. I know that there have been previous posts on this and i'm found a few but none were that helpful, and some are plain outdated. what kind of suggestions do people have? do you think i could do it in a day? (that would be optimal) -- i'm thinking taking the PATH across to Jersey City, but from there, which paths are bike worthy? (there have been suggestions to take the ferry to south amboy; this is not feasible to do the high ($33!!) cost.
thanks for your help

I ran across a few days ago in another forum
NYCC's route to Morristown NJ

maybe a map from NJDOT will get you the last 85 miles to philly .There are a couple of good backroads that runalong some of the ridges in the west part of NJ I rode on a century once, I just don't remember which roads it was.

Thanks for that, but google maps morristown -> philly as 105 miles, not 85 -- where do you get that number?
thanks!

Google must be taking the scenic route.
My Michelin Road atlas said 85miles .
Mapquest (http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?go=1&do=nw&rmm=1&2si=gaz&un=m&2gi=0&cl=EN&ct=NA&2n=Philadelphia&2da=-1.000000&2rc=A5XAX&rsres=1&1ex=1&1y=US&1a=&1ac=MH6ElVK6f881a7mPYGES4PAGjqb9zc68f9VZwFcNwPWhcumuNZbiyA%252bF5gvMP4%252bB&2ahXX=&2y=US&2a=&2c=Philadelphia&2s=PA&2z=)
says 82.
Of course if you wind around the backroads and get lost a time or two you can make it 105 miles :)

take the path to Hoboken and ride from there.. just get a compass and head south. there are too many roads to really mess up. ie, no one road is going to take you an hour out of your way. especially anywhere north of trenton.
dont try to do it in a day.. Follow the coast, see the beautiful shore, camp in an awesome beach spot and then when you reach LBI (Long Beach Island) make a right onto 72 and go west to CherryHill and then over the river into Philly. Or maybe get to Jackson on day one, camp somewhere and then when you wake up, go to Great Adventure for a few hours and then head to Philly. Dont forget Pats (9th&Wharton) when you finally get into philly. You NEED one of these cheesesteaks. Best ever. open 24hrs so you can go whenever you roll into town. When you get over the BenFranklin Bridge, go left (south) for a ways.. its a few blocks past South Street.
